Dealing with mysterious phone calls

In a bbs that shall go unnamed is a thread about a player getting a phone call purporting to be from law enforcement and requesting banking information.
Never give out any banking information to anyone calling *you*. And if they mention any of your transactions, that is not proof that they legitimately obtained the information. It could be someone who stole a bank statement out of the mail, or a casino or bank employee gone bad, or someone who purchased informataion from an employee and is conducting identity theft research.

If someone represents themselves as law enforcement, offer to come to the offices to be interviewed in person. Ask what they want you to bring and offer *no* information over the phone. Then consult an attorney.

I am not advocating noncooperation with law enforcement. Authentic law enforcement officers should be sensitive to the issue of identity theft.

Good advice Mary. I also read in a recent post that a player was called by the US Justice Department. No one believed it, but it could be a potential fraudster.

Like Spear said in the post, "The US Justice department does not just call people at home".

Be very cautious with your personal info.

Actually, it was later amended to the North Carolina DOJ.

But the same thing applies. State or Federal Departments of Justice don't just call you at home - especially over a 1-2K win.
