I’m a bit on the fence with this one, on one hand yes it’s a bit much that they check credit files, but even tho it’s not credit the casino is providing the credit report could be a good indicator that someone isn’t doing well with gambling within their means.
For example someone missing payments and or maxing out credit cards could be a sign that said person isn’t in control of their gambling and even if it isn’t it’s still a potential sign that the person isn’t being very responsible. Good casinos do actually want responsible players as its less overall headache for them. Lenders look to it to see if the person is likely to default on a potential loan, a casino is probably looking more as one of many ways to a guide that they are gambling responsibly and tbh I’m not over bothered that they are doing soft checks in this way.
Its not new after all, I have been seeing soft searches from casinos on my credit report for several years now for ID check, AML checks etc so now affordability is just another one.
All they probably get to see on mine is that I pay my credit cards in full every month, low utilisation, have never missed a payment EVER ( Martin lewis would be proud ) and have pretty high credit limits, pretty boring really.
