Yeah I checked mine other day and white hat gaming on mine for affordability check. It’s a soft check but still wasn’t happy to see it

if the UKGC get there way thats going to be the way forward,it will be affordability checks when you sign up for a casino, basically they will want to see bank statements to see if you can afford to play, its a disgrace i know especially when the likes of politicians and members of the UKGC have never laid a bet in there life, again its all control over our lives

Casino Sites use Credit reference agencies to check and confirm your Name, Address, and fraud Status.. This is a footprint check and not a search and your financial information is kept separate. The Key checks are your Address. This is to make sure you are matched to where you say you are. Any Fraud is recorded with a flag and would lock your account As for affordability it would only flag as lots of current missed payments, Defaults etc and not what accounts you have.

If you check the T&C of nearly all casinos out there when you signed up you will see that you have given them permission to do this from time to time.

Personally if a footprint came up and said you was currently 8 Payments Behind on 3 different accounts that would mean at least 1 account was 3 payments behind and this need attention over gamming so a further affordability investigation would be needed

You'll probably see Entain, Grosvenor, BET365, on there as well, if you have accounts with them as they seem to be using Transunion for theirs.

Credit Karma etc (the free yin) you'll see 'Gambling Affordability' as the purpose of the checks (as opposed to generic AML/ID for KYC)

Dystopian slot world compared to 2007.

Wow did not know this was being done. Never before for me. Not sure new to Winz.io and been playing alot there last few months wonder if it the casino that requested it? Blows my mind this crap of priving into people's privacy. I had a friend rack her cards up 3 times, filed bankruptcy 3 times but yet no one question her everytime she make charges on her new credit cards. It's double standards how majority of gamblers are treated. For me personally alot of fun I usta injoy being ruined with all these mandatory checks etc. I love Playojo but got so many pop ups while I was in play asking if I'm ok on top of that emails asking if I'm playing to much then other emails to encourage to make deposits to get bonuses its confusing and frustrating I have cut my deposits with them less than 1/4 of what I was depositing as this just turned me off. Feel like I'm being disaplind by mommy. Casino's don't do this cause they care so they need to cut the crap as this over regulated market started with UKGC they do it because they have no choice but the procedure from one to another isn't equal.

Still a pain in the backside if you're going for a loan/mortgage and the bank can see soft-searches from gambling companies or possibly "I've got an issue with gambling" organisations such as Gamstop who, I suspect, would also do the same address verification as casinos.

Remember a TV Drama called "Menace Unseen" ?? :eek2:

will hill has a small print now on deposit screen which says they can check your affordability via a credit report it’s absolutely nuts how these online casinos think they are financial institution

Affordability is related to responsible gambling and has nothing to do with AML.

they shouldn’t be prying into anybodys personal credit file sorry it’s disgusting and an invasion of privacy
Yeah and even if somebody can’t really afford it, so bloody what. People should be able to make their own adult decisions and face the consequences of those decisions.

Of course there should be safeguards for the most vulnerable and, by and large there are. Deposit limits, loss limits, timeouts, exclusions etc etc…there is so much self help to be had. People should not be forced to take credit checks etc.

It’s just nanny state gone mad.

Yet its ok to buy cigarettes, alcohol or the latest mobile phone - you know, all those necessities vital to survival - no affordability checks there, just need to be over 18. What happened to becoming an adult and being able to make your own choices?

I thought a credit check was only conducted when applying for credit etc.

They don't check your credit before walking into a liquor store or buying lotto tickets. This is a breach of private privacy if you ask me, especially doing this without consent. Part of me is so glad Ontario Canada soon will have many more licenced online casinos as you know we Canadians wouldn't stand up to this crap😉😉 you've seen the truckers so don't mess with us Canadian gamblers.

Been looking through my credit report and I’ve noticed I’ve got checks on there under ‘gambling affordability’ or something like that.

More worrying is I’ve got a search on there from last year undertaken by LeoVegas. Never had a LeoVegas account nor have I ever deposited at a casino under their umbrella as far as I’m aware. The only thing I can think of is Pink Casino which I signed up to years ago but have never deposited there.

Either way, casinos are starting to credit check often now. There’s 3 or 4 affordability checks on my report from 32Red, for example. They’re seemingly checking every few months.

I’m a bit on the fence with this one, on one hand yes it’s a bit much that they check credit files, but even tho it’s not credit the casino is providing the credit report could be a good indicator that someone isn’t doing well with gambling within their means.

For example someone missing payments and or maxing out credit cards could be a sign that said person isn’t in control of their gambling and even if it isn’t it’s still a potential sign that the person isn’t being very responsible. Good casinos do actually want responsible players as its less overall headache for them. Lenders look to it to see if the person is likely to default on a potential loan, a casino is probably looking more as one of many ways to a guide that they are gambling responsibly and tbh I’m not over bothered that they are doing soft checks in this way.

Its not new after all, I have been seeing soft searches from casinos on my credit report for several years now for ID check, AML checks etc so now affordability is just another one.

All they probably get to see on mine is that I pay my credit cards in full every month, low utilisation, have never missed a payment EVER ( Martin lewis would be proud ) and have pretty high credit limits, pretty boring really. 😂
