Confused about an email I received

I received this email from Costa Games offering me a free £5 if I joined Vera & John.

Firstly I am already a member of Vera & John, they even quoted my username, but the confusion here is Vera & John is not owned by the same company as Costa Games so why would they ask me to join a rival company.

Have they merged?

It doesn't appear to be from an affiliate.

No, they aren't - VJ and Intercasino are Dumarca Ltd.

I reckon it's an affiliate arrangement whereby Costa use their database to earn money my having a CPA arrangement with VJ. Say they receive 30 quid for acquisition, e-mail their players and give them £5 they do quite well out of it. Summat like that.

I think they are connected actually, but please correct me if I am wrong.

The owner of Vera&John is Intertain Group - a publicly traded company that also owns the brands Costa Games and Costa Bingo (both operated, I assume as white labels, by Cassava).

Intertain acquired Vera&John in 2014 for about €80 million.
