Check Your bank statements

It's worked for me twice (and I thought I was the only slick one around here...lol). QT wouldn't let me use my Netspend for withdrawals. Now they cut off deposits w/Netspend (but it's a MC, not Visa). I also tried to use a GreenDot Visa for ACH but the wire was refused by the receiving bank. I think there is more info regarding ACH to prepaid cards that has yet to be revealed.

I think I was one of the first casualties when Greendot stopped allowing gambling transactions. They were actually a pioneer in their field, because they stopped allowing those transactions from going through way back before the UIGEA was even drafted.

They really fcked alot of people when they did so. I had just gotten that damn card specifically for online gaming. When you sign up, you had the option of paying $20 extra just to have that privilege. Unfortunately in my case, not a month after I got the card, they miracuously changed their T&C to ban online gambling transactions.

When I called to bitch about it, I also asked for the $20 fee to be refunded. They so graciously said "tough shit."

I just applied for an AccountNowVisa card and will try it for ACH. But I'm concerned that one of the card's deposit options is a GreenDot reload pak. Any idea??

In data from 2006 FTC complaints, Sprint, AT&T, and Bank of America had more identity theft events than other institutions.

Compromised accounts within just 25 companies account for nearly half of the identity theft complaints filed with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, according to recently released FTC data compiled by the University of California, Berkeley.

In data culled from three months' worth of 2006 FTC complaints, Sprint and AT&T averaged more identity theft events than any other institution except Bank of America, the largest consumer bank in the U.S.

The FTC encourages victims of identity theft to file complaint forms in order to help the commission, as well as law enforcement organizations, get a picture of criminal trends. It publishes a survey on identity theft, but until now it has not broken down its data on complaints by institution.

That work was done by Berkeley's Center for Law and ...

As far as I know, and I have researched this alot, Netspend Visa and Wired Plastic Visa are the only cards that don't have the "no online gambling/illegal activity" clause in their T & C's. That said, I use Netspend for ACH withdrawals and Wired Plastic for wire transfers from casinos and Quicktender. As I never fund my Quicktender account, it is only used to get money from a casino, I can't tell you that you can use Wired Plastic to fund it, but they did let me put the information in to set it up as my funding account.

You can't use AccountNowVisas for gambling transactions. I got one and then tossed it.

The only problem with Netsend is you have no recourse if there is a fraudulent purchase on it like you have with a CC or a bank. Always pros and cons. So just be careful.

Also let it be known (again) that if you use your PayPal account to fund your Netspend card via ACH, Paypal will close your account.

I've only done this once, without issue. I wonder if this is for large amts or if I just slipped under the wire?

gosh thanks for all the info. i wasnt aware i could make a dep from a casino to my netspend card. i will try it if i ever get to make a nother withdrawl. also just a note that i got a email from netspend the outher day telling me they had temporarily locked my account because my password had been entered 5 times incorrectly. i was shocked because i didnt do that. i emailed them back and thanked them for letting me know. anway it is unlocked and working fine at this time.. i have no money on it unless i reload it to gamble anyway.

I've heard from a few people that had this happen to them...I think you just slipped under the wire :)

I have a hunch that they finally caught on that you could use your Netspend card for gambling and they didn't want any part of it.

Im a little worried about this email.....

and Ill tell you why. There is only ONE place that has this email and also the only place I correspond with because for some reason the casino was not getting any of my emails via my comcast so even though I had this yahoo email account I never used it. I have it listed on this site but noone has ever sent me an email via Yahoo from here.ALL email is sent to bulk junk with the exception of this one casino that I JUST gave to them recently. If there is a way to prove that I only got email from this casino and noone else, tell me so I can show you.

Just now I checked the Yahoo incase they needed something from me (this is the first time I really checked it, I dont even go into Yahoo) LOL..there were like 500 bulk to be deleted . I get this email and its not even in bulk, its in my regular inbox. I opened it because all of my junk goes to bulk and this is what it says:

Calm down, take a deep breath :)

You're getting overly paranoid (with good reason due to the $8K check)...

But anyways:

People send these bank notices out by the millions every day. Of course not everyone will have an account with that particular bank, but some will.

Even if you figure only .1% of those that do have an account at the bank, then if the scammers send out 10,000,000 copies, they're going to get 10,000 hits. Even if they only get .001% of people to respond, there's 1,000 people that they can steal identities from....:eek2:

In reference to having Babs7262 in the email subject, think nothing of it. They can simply put your email username (the whatever@ part) wherever they see fit. They can even setup their spamming software to make it seem that you sent the email to yourself.

Do yourself a favor (and everyone else for that matter) and get off of yahoo, unless you use it for IM or whatever. I did the same myself, and only use yahoo messenger. I have had the account for years, but rarely even bother to look at the emails that come in. When I'm bored I'll look at it for shits & giggles. It's nothing for spam messages to get through to your inbox. Yahoo's mail filters SUCK. If you want an account with great filters, head over to www.gmail.com :D

One last thing, scammers that are trying to get enough information from someone to steal their identity (the professionals, anyways) will ALWAYS include the banks real contact email address in the email. Some even make it so if you reply to the email, it will go through to the actual bank and you won't get a message saying that it bounced. They know it will take most any bank 2-3 days to actually reply, and they want to make it look 100% legitimate. For example, fmfcu.org is the legitimate website for the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union.

Thanks Win

I guess I am acting a bit paranoid but the last few months have contributed to that as you mentioned. I googled the link instead of clicking on it and it did indeed take you to the Frankin Mint website! It also showed this fraudulant email on their website and said to delete it right away.

I guess Ill open a gmail and get rid of Yahoo, I dont use it for anything. As I said, I only used it this week because a casino couldnt get their emails to me

OK, found out what happened

I made a payment to Peco via mycheckfree.com , I have a receipt for this $80payment too. Someone either at CheckFree or Peco typed in $8,000.00 in error. Now, I have to wait for everything to clear before I can make the original $80 payment. When I asked if any bounced check charges will be removed , she said "Im not sure, youll have to wait and see"

I hate Peco, their customer service gives no answers and it took teeth pulling to get a supervisor because the person that answered the phone didnt want to help me because the bill was in Rich's name. I told her considering that this is a huge error and it effects my bank, Im sure they would make an exception. She kept saying no and I kept saying "I need help now" LOL...I asked for a supervisor 3 times, she finally gave in and put me on hold. After a minute, she came back and helped me.

OK, Ive had enough for this week, infact, the next 6 months LOL. Im just happy that it was an error and not fraud, in which I really didnt think it was fraud because of the amount

Oh more funny thing....the supervisor said "So, that means we will credit your bank account $8K ok? LMAO, I should of said OK!, I said "um, i dont have $8k sitting in my account, it bounced" I wanted to add "you frikin moron" but i didnt :)
