Okay, this may be the wrong part of the forum to post this, but here, it will reach a far wider audience. I am neither an officer of the grammar police nor a member of the Neo-Nazi punctuation movement, however, when reading posts with hundreds of red wavy lines under misspelt words it makes my eyes bleed, and to be blatantly honest there is no excuse for it.

Most browsers support spell checkers and are simple to install and use, when typing if you have misspelt a word you will notice a red line underlining it, highlight this word by left clicking and scrolling over the word or double left clicking on the word and right click, a drop down list will appear with a small list of alternative words available....

Select the word that corrects your mistake and click on it, it will automatically replace the incorrectly spelt one.

I fully understand and appreciate this forum caters for members from all other the world and English is their second language, this is not a dig at their English, far from it, in fact I find their grasp of our language incredibly cute (especially Temperance Fox, just love what this young lady likes to do when not gambling, hubba, hubba), oops my bad, drifted there .

I hope I have not offended anyone with this thread, it was not my intention, Bad English = No problem, Incorrect spelling = No excuse.

To install a spell checker open your browser tool option, here you will find add-ons, click on that and it will take you to the add-on site for the respective browser you use and will ofc be 100% compatible for it.

/cheers.

Disclaimer:- When making this thread it was not my intention to put Nifty out of work either :eek2:.

There`s a CM spell checker?, damn, never noticed that, I use a British English one which seems to be working (unless Bryan`s is the same), as this - armour is the correct spelling and not armor (American spelling).

Oh well, thanks for pointing that out to me ;).

geez yer takin all da fun outta this. its lik the 1s who use txt speak. OR THE ONES WHO USE ALL CAPS TO GET THEIR POINT ACROSS. orhowabouttheoneswhojustforgetaboutspacingalltogether? And then there are the ones who forget what a paragraph looks like.:D

*sorry, couldn't resist*

I agree with everything you are saying. It's one thing to have a language barrier, another to have a spelling barrier. I've helped Temperance (at least I think I have) and several others, on occassion, try to understand things. When you misspell or fail to use proper punctuation, it draws away from what you are trying to say.

When people have to continuously try to figure out what a writer is trying to impart because of improper usage of punctuation and mispelled words, they will lose interest and will lose the meaning of what the writer is trying to say. And maybe, the writer has something really important to say!

Hehe, and I agree with your reply thank you. I will gladly help Temperance with anything she needs, it`s a dirty job but someone has to do it ;).

I use IE8 ... and after one of the most recent forum upgrades my forum spell checker thingy no longer works. It's still in the bar with the other things. It just doesn't do anything when I click it. :(

I fer 1 colud nat wrute anythang thet woudl be understendeble at all if nat for spel chack. :D:D

Seriously, my spelling is atrocious and I'm thankful for whoever thought up the idea way back when. At least with spell check I can occasionally sound somewhat intelligent. lol Of course I have been known to butcher a word now and then so badly that spell check doesn't have a clue what the hell I'm trying to spell. That's pretty bad, isn't it?

Spell checker doesn't help if someone's using a real word but the wrong one. The ones I see all the time are their/there/they're or two/to/too or then/than - and on this forum lose/loose and rogue/rouge.

I had a client who typed something himself, spell checked it, and sent it off to the printer - THEN he sent it to me to proof. It was going out to potential investors and in the last paragraph he said something about, "...not leading you up the bridal path..." ;)

The auto - spell checker is a US version.

Can be annoying for us British folk as i most certainly know that i have 'spelt' the word correctly...'spelt' being the issue in the case as it is not recognised in the US....

Oh dear, i see recognised is not recognised either, i believe the US spelling is recognized..Phew, no red line under that one :)

Woohoo!! I have made a breakthrough in my spell check!!

The problem (for me at least) has been corrected with the latest version of ieSpell. Went to their website, downloaded and installed latest version. While the little ABC/spell checker button here at CM/vBulletin still doesn't work, right click/Check Spelling in the posting field, now DOES work.
