Boooonanza

Funny, not one person PMd me to ask me to reopen the thread. It's like I have a forum mafia at work here. That is not appreciated one bit.

That thread was closed specifically because I had a load of people complaining about it - I read nothing about the game for about 3-4 pages - just nonsense about "twat" and c%$# so yeah, it got shut down. It was 100% derailed and will take some time to clean up - time that I did not have yesterday.

Can we get the thread unlocked. Most popular thread on here I've no clue why its closed. Seems weird to stop everyone discussing the slot cause some posts are not right.

Just remove the posts?

@dunover can you unlock it
Yes, I am in the process of doing so now. It would have helped if you asked me directly.

But surely it was obvious to anyone that particular thread was the most popular thread for some time now so to close it was not going to be popular? I think the debate that arose that derailed the thread came somewhat from the ban on nutnut and other ban's handed out for "language used" and as he is one of the primary posters on that thread thats probably why it ended up there? The guy got banned for his "tag-teaming" reference and the offence it caused to the BTG rep (and presumably others) when it was painfully obvious that there was no sexual innuendo there at all.
Bans are handed out here way to quickly and if you feel there is a "forum mafia" at work you might wish to spin round to the other side of the table and see it from forum members viewpoint many of whom feel uncomfortable posting anything that may be deemed "banworthy" and don't know what specific set of rules are going to be applied to them on any given day? Glassheart got a ban (short albeit) for calling a mod a "dick" but that same terminology appears to be able to be used by mods and directed at members so how is anyone supposed to know what is deemed acceptable? If there are going to be rules surely they should be applied across the board but as this is a gambling forum where everyone is over 18 this type of normal banter should not be causing offence and if there are some "snowflakes" (mod terminology) maybe their reporting should be treated with pinch of salt?
We are forever reminded that we are "only guests here" but for the most regular posters anyway we are "paying guests" and those that would hand out bans willy nilly might wish to bear that in mind

I kind of disagree with the premise of this post. As a long time member here, I have no issues how bans are handled. In fact, in most cases they are needed to have the desired effect: to stear the conversations in the right direction. The same goes for locking threads.

At times posters seem to forget how people should be treated and talked to. I've made that mistake myself (also in this forum). Common decency is something we all might need to be reminded of sometimes.

If a poster has reservations about posting their views because they fear it will get them banned, maybe that poster should reflect on the content and wording of their message? Just a thought.

If you disagree thats fine but the premise of the post wasn't that the language was "derogatory" in some cases it is how the logic is applied as to whats acceptable on any given day and by whom. For example if i disagreed with you but my response was (and please don't take this personally its an example just) "just piss off" you would probably take that offensively. But i'd probably be somewhat justified asking you why as thats the language used by mods on this forum directed at us. That is what sets the "bar" for me , i personally don't take a big issue it , i can f and blind as well and better as most but when there is a "god" complex going on where its "say as i say and not as i do" (and there are certainly no gods here) i do object . This is a gambling forum -that is all ,and sometimes those "deeply" involved get a bit too full of themselves.
"Agenda" is another overly used phrase here one which i don't fully get, if i post about something, have a strong opinion on something and i'm entitled to free speech (well i think i am) then of course i'm going to harp on about it a bit but i for one feel "agenda" gets pulled out of the bag when things aren't going in the direction some would like. Of course if it is a case of i/we are so lowly that i/we have to take any and all S@@@ thrown at us by those in power that could be made a bit clearer, this isn't that important to me to stick around under those conditions.

Lest we forget this thread I initiated in November:
How to get banned (or not) at Casinomeister

This explains how to get banned here.

As for people getting "spanked" (accounts suspended NOT banned - huge difference) there are logical reasons for that. Disrespecting a forum Mod is a clear violation of the rules. I don't care if I have used the same words to describe spammers or content thieves - to use the same towards a moderator - or anyone else in the forum is a no go. Glassheart's account was spanked for a short period for calling Dunover a dick - and he would have gotten the same calling you one too. There are other ways to express dissent - even name calling can be turned into a humorous exchange when it is done right.

Furthermore, there is a big difference between being banned and suspended. I think a load of people are confusing the two.

Also this whole thing about derailing threads - if you value this forum as one of the most powerful platforms and resources for online gamblers, knock it off. If I am a newbie player and I want to know about Free Spins, I would be highly disappointed to find one of the Free Spin threads here - they are garbage, pages after pages of people not giving a care except making jokes or whinging about having to put a URL for the corresponding casino review. Think about that for a moment - think about the flack that I get for simply asking you as a member to assist me in maintaining the forum - the strongest voice in the online casino industry.

I don't think I am asking all that much. And we as moderators are not here to babysit grown adults. You have loads of freedom in this forum, and most of the limitations you are complaining about are either imaginary or misunderstood.

I understand your points. And I'm fully aware what your references are regarding the seemingly unbalanced level of applying the rules of the forum. There have been instances where unbalance is crystal clear.

But my objection was, that rather than taking the discussion to reasons of bans and locked threads, maybe the posters should take some responsibility as well? For instance, should one see a flawed logic in applying posting standards, maybe react to them approriately and not take part in the mudslinging?

The logic of moderator action may sometimes fail. But if that's the case, they are also usually corrected.

I don't see the forum as 'us' against 'them'. Like Bryan wrote, he doesn't live in an ivory tower. Just like the forum is not a place where posters should be wary of their words and views because of a invisible veil of standard behaviour. That should be given. It's called civility.

On a personal note. You can reply to me with "just piss off". I don't mind and I'm not easily offended.

One misconception - I must add - is that the moderators and I are not hanging over everyone's every word. So what one person may think is injustice on some forum "ruling"
could be a matter of we haven't read the entire 40 pages of a thread that popped up on a weekend. lol :p

Could we have “suspended” user then when your suspended added to avatar instead of “banned” user ?
