Marketing decision or possibly licensing issue?

I got the message too, but TBH I won't miss them. Since Skrill pulled out of Canada I haven't been able to deposit there anyhow and trying to get a response from CS was like pulling teeth. I tried to talk to someone in chat and twice either got disconnected or they hung up on me. I sent an email and they responded but their email was completely blank, just quoted what I had written to them. :what: Finally I got hold of someone in chat and they just said that I could only use the deposit methods showing in the cashier. What was showing in my cashier? Skrill and Neteller, neither of which can be used for gambling in Canada.

Since then they've been sending me all sorts of match bonus offers which is weird because I don't use deposit bonuses even when I could deposit.

I dont have a account there anymore but i got a email from them saying that they will not accept players from sweden.

So are they going to become UK-only casino or something like that?

It could have something to do with the new taxes on UK online gambling coming in December 2014, if the casino is UK-heavy already it is probably easier for them to kick non-UK folks out, than to create new sister site for UK players, France and Belgium tax online gambling in somewhat similar way to that I think, and they have sister sites from what I've understood.

Odd...got the email dumping me as a player from Canada, and now just got this mail (as an affiliate) and it says

This is an important notification to inform you that Betfred have removed a selection of countries from their signup page and will no longer be able to receive traffic from these countries:
South Africa
Germany
Sweden
Netherlands
Norway
Finland
Belgium
Poland
Bulgaria
Austria
Czech Republic
Hungary
Japan
Latvia
Portugal
Romania
Slovakia
Ukraine

...but no mention of Canada. Are we THAT forgettable? :(

Why would this be so though? Has there been some legislation change that we are not aware of? That's a pretty big list and must affect a lot of customers. Seems odd that a business would restrict countries by choice on that sort of scale if you ask me.

I don't know WTF is going on with BetFred, today they sent me a $1 free (yeah I know) and I hadn't uninstalled yet so went to see if I could still log in and I could, so I claimed the generous bonus and lost it. The cashier loads but still only has Neteller and Skrill and nobody seems to be responding in live chat. I threw out the mail about Canada being dumped, did anyone notice the date that was to take effect - was it the 9th as well?

I think it was the 9th for everyone everywhere.

I had no idea I even had an account there.
I must have opened one in 2008, but I've never played there, and not a single email until now.
I don't think I will miss them :)

Like I posted earlier in this thread, there will be new UK gambling taxes in December 2014, and they might have decided to go due to that UK-only well before that deadline.

The Government is to impose a 15% tax rate on operators in the £2bn remote gambling market.

The rules state that from December 2014 gambling must be taxed according to where customers are based rather than where the online operator is registered.

Also Netherlands has something similar coming, and some other major or semi-major online gambling countries are considering this too. So you need to have separate bookkeeping for all the different countries that tax the online gambling providers, and then to those countries that don't etc.

Maybe Betfred already gets such a huge majority of their customers from UK, that they decided to go UK-only, rather than bother to keep separate books, bureaucracy etc.

This "has been coming" for about 5 years now
I'll worry about as it comes.. of course as an operator you cant have such an attitude, and i guess Betfred indeed wants to avoid any possible penalties or big taxes coming their way, especially if those amounts would weigh negatively against their revenue from those jurisdictions.

I for one am just guessing, would be nice to see some official statement once in while that actually is transparent:) I just hope my favorite Casinos aren't going to follow suit on their exclusion list!
