Betfilter

I do have trouble abstaining from gambling because it is quite habitual, at certain times of day or whatever, it's all too easy to have a quick game even if I have told myself I won't - hence the physical aid of Betfilter on my computer this time around. I have a baby son and work full time so I'd like to reserve my evenings for more quality time with him instead of staring at the spinning slots for a while, and of course, this will hopefully have positive financial implications too. I would like to stress that I am not in trouble!

And I've never hidden the fact that I'm a high-roller, just take a look at my sig ;)
I wager £1 to £100 per spin when playing slots, depending on how it's been going, bankroll, streak, etc - but usually in the £5-£10 region per spin, the £20 that induced the good Cleo win was cool but unusual for me to be rolling at £20 a spin in most cases. I have had wins of thousands resulting from a £1 spin and likewise, sometimes very low wins when rolling high. Its swings and roundabouts but always enjoyable and I remain in control and financially very much in the black.

OK, my bad assumption about the finances. Apologies. In the black or not though, you'd be far more in the black without the slots...
As for the son, you can make back money later, repair finances but you can never get back the time lost while his growing-up passes you by. Imagine missing that first step, first word, or even worse not preventing an accident because you were glued to that f***ing laptop. That alone is reason IMO.

When people 'take a break' it's usually to try and tackle debt or other financial issues that have crept up.
If you want to take a break, you take a break from it full-stop. Coming here certainly won't assist this 'break'

So wrong.

I think in the last few weeks I can think of 10 members here who are chilling out on their deposits, (including me) meaning taking a break. Some even posted about it in the "attic" in the New Years Resolution thread.

There are also long time members who commonly post that they takes breaks every now and then.

So your definition of "taking a break" differs from most posters here from what I can see.

How do you know? Do you really believe that?

Because I'm smart, and yes. ;)

Same here JustPlay - quite a few gamblers I know take breaks from time to time for their own reasons, unrelated to debt or addiction. My mother is one example, she is a semi-professional gambler, totally controlled and able to stop at any time- which she regularly does, for a month or two, or sometimes longer, just to give her focus to other things or if she feels a bad streak has been going on too long, etc.

I'm not entirely sure why I received all the stick, for trying to make a healthy choice, but shall comfort myself in hoping that members just have my best interest at heart and don't just want to chase me off here :) Another thing - yesterday was my first full day in probably 3 years without playing even in fun mode (which is another reason I wanted Betfilter as even fun mode steals my time)...... feeling good :)

Hey, not wishing to rub people up the wrong way! We all know what fun slots/casinos are, and how they pass the time, and for the less strong-willed the hobby can be harmful. I'm sure we've all known people who are or have been in trouble through gaming, so maybe that makes some (like myself) a bit overprotective or cautious. If people can stop and they genuinely have no draw to go back gnawing at them all day, then good. I suppose my reaction and that of some others is similar to a teacher that sees bruises on a small child - you are drawn to assume the worst and hope it isn't true, and are relieved when the explanation is innocent. Sorry for the hard analogy, but it does come from human compassion.
