Betfair Bonus Fiasco

At 2pm this afternoon there was a horse race at Leopardstown. A bizarre situation appeared on betfair whereby a horse was several lengths clear right at the end yet was available to back at 28/1 on betfair, for millions and millions of pounds as it sauntered up to win the race. Seems to be another lol situation.

(Check the betfair forums as this story is developing as we speak, kicking off in there atm as you might imagine)

Annnnnnnnnnnnd (not surprisingly) no pay from betfair!

"Customers betting in-play on this race will have seen that Voler La Vedette was available to back at 29 when the in-running market was suspended, and that a considerable sum was matched on the clear winner at that price.

An investigation has revealed that this was due to an obvious technical failure which allowed a customer to exceed their exposure limit.

In accordance with our terms and conditions, all in running bets on this race, both win and place, will be made void.

We fully appreciate the dissatisfaction this will cause many customers, and apologise for a very poor customer and betting experience. "

It is already on the daily mail website and is on Sky Sports News

Not "obvious" to Betfair, else it would have been catered for and trapped in the software. I also fail to see how "a customer" being able to exceed their exposure limit can lead to such a situation where betting can continue on an event that has more or less an obvious outcome (the horse could always drop dead 10 yards off the finish). Surely no sane customer would be LAYING in-play at these odds with the horse so far in front, yet it would seem to be that a big LAY is the only way to push the odds so high on a horse that is several lengths in front. I suspect this will turn out NOT to be the true story about this incident, but some "spin" designed to get Betfair off the hook whilst they try to find out WTF happened.
