This snail mail letter from Belle Rock arrived today. It appears that I have opened an account with one or more Bellerock associated establishments in the past(doesn't say which ones and quite frankly, I have no idea myself). Couldn't have been a great experience since I didn't even bother to keep the account info as I always do when signing up and actually intend to play.
I don't know if it's readable for all without downloading/enhancing it so I'll let you know, in short, what is says. There are 3 important paragraphs:
1) Dormant Accounts Policy
Belle Rock enforces its Dormant Account Policy when a player does not play on his/her account(s) for 6 calendar months and the account(s) have a credit balance. Yada, yada yada.....we deduct a MONTHLY administration fee of $30(or the total balance, whichever is higher).
I have no doubt this policy exists and is included somewhere in their T&C but YIKES!, $30 per month? Isn't this a bit steep(see point 2 where they try to motivate the amount)? I remember one of the bigger poker rooms trying this cheap trick not that long ago and, by god, they sure removed the policy lightning fast and wished they'd never even tried to pull that kind of stunt. Poker players can form a nasty lynch mob when some online gambling site, to which the pay to play, is trying to rip them off.
2) Why?
The administration fee is levied to cover both the cost of keeping your account open and the cost of ongoing attemps to contact you in order to inform you that you have funds available.
I beg your pardon? The cost of keeping my account open? Am I being charged for the 2MB of space that my account info occupies on your server? And what's with this "costs of attemps to contact me"? What costs? A bi-yearly mass email with little to no content? Just for the record, NO attempts to contact me prior to this have been made so that I guess I should pay for nothing?!
3) When?(this is my favourite part)
We will be enforcing the policy and debiting your account(s) on September 29, 2006.
September 29 2006, huh? Then I guess I'll be needing some kind of frikkin time machine since this letter is stamped December 15, 2006..........This is just horrid and insulting, almost 3 months have passed since they started dipping into my funds to cover their alleged costs.
Naturally, I had to find out what's up with this and tried typing in the links to access my account(s). It didn't work. Couldn't remember my password and had to check the "lost password" section on Belle Rocks homepage. Got redirected to a defunked page so that was a dead end. Found another possible way to retrieve my password but, alas, it was no good either. I've given up on trying to access my account mainly because I will never play there and couldn't care less if there is indeed any money left behind.
In all my years gambling online, this is probably one of the most idiotic T&C clauses I've ever seen. And I've seen quite a few...
Sorry for the longish post, I guess this is more of a rant than anything else but it would be interesting to hear what you guys think about this.
