I just want to shout out to those CM members in Barcelona that I hope you are safe. There are a number of industry related offices there, including the one where some of our coders and designers are at - which are very close to yesterday's attack.

Barcelona is one of my favorite cities - I have been there many times and love it. It is a tragedy that innocents have been targeted by a bunch of hateful assholes.

The colour of the skin has nothing to do with these attacks in my opinion. It is religion - the root of all evil as the saying goes.

I'd like to comment on this thread and although not specifically about Barcelona, the underlying topic is the same.

Turku, Finland was targeted yesterday. This happened right where we live, the market square is about 200 m. from our front door. Me and my wife were actually right on the spot were the attack started just 30 minutes earlier.

Reading from the witness statements, the attack could have been even worse. But the people stepped in and chased the attacker. Ordinary people, trying to take down a lunatic with a big knive with anything they could get their hands on, throwing chairs at him and running after him. Unarmed. A swedish man tried to help one victim and became a victim himself. The police was took down the attacker in minutes.

This is a small town. Just under 180,000 people. But we have a population that represents over 100 different languages. Different religions and ethinicities.

Like Barcelona and many other places in recent years, this is always shocking. Common people find it hard to comprehend the evilness and lunacy of some.

The attack is being investigated as an act of terrorism. Like always, some commentators go and voice their opinion that terrorism is caused by religion and certain ethnic groups. I'm not a big believer in this way of thinking. To me, terrorism is a cowardly criminal act. It doesn't really matter if the perpetrators justify it with some kind of deity of religious belief. It's a cop out and really doesn't solve a thing. All abrahamic religions have blood on their hands, it just manifests more subtly in some than others.

Some small minded people even try to make these events about race or ethnicity. I have no respect for this at all. It's stupidity on larger scale and shows that these kinds of comments lack any coherent, factual thinking.

Terrorism does not born out of a vacuum. I've said it before and will say it again: causes of terrorism are complex and many aspects of it have been ignored in discussions around the topic.

Stay safe people. Who and where ever you are.

Let's face it, we live in a very unstable world...
Acts of terrorism, some lunatics who actually reign a country and have controls to set off nukes, the in my eyes abnormal weather patterns (long heatwaves, tornados even in Europe, floodings).

Very very unsettling and I worry for my kids and maybe in the future their kids.
What is this world coming to.

When it comes to these brutal lowlife scumbag acts of terror, I am afraid it will only occur more often and with more victims as our European politicians have no f*cking clue how to stop this or fight this.

And in Europe we may be focussing on IS and other dipshit "islamitic" terror cells, let's also look at the US where the KKK and other white supremacist groups still cause havoc and trouble across some states. I am disgusted by the behaviour of the human race..

For all here, peace and stay safe.
