Hi all,

Although I know there aren't many mobile webmeisters here, I think the following might also be interesting for online webmeisters.

Just recently I decided to take a closer look at app building, because this could be a great way to get some extra traffic.

I soon discovered building apps is really a piece of cake, which can be done online.
In fact an app is nothing more or less than a set of rss feeds, which are bundled in one neat package. And best of all: it's free! So, I did it this way:

1. Set up one or more special rss feeds on a subject you like to promote. In my case it is a mobile casinos feed, containing about a dozen casino reviews. For this I use FeedForAll, but there are many other good programs around. Of course you can also use any rss feed you already have.

2. Set up an account at AppMakr.com or similar program. It's free and it allows you to build iPhone, Android and Windows apps. It's really easy to use. First select your newly created rss feed and then add more feeds, like your blogfeed, twitterfeed or other existing newsfeeds. Then make some customizations, add graphics and you're (almost) done.
Almost, because to finish your iPhone app, you have to get an Apple developer account, which has to be integrated in AppMakr. Apple charges $99 for this.

3. Set up an account at wizardapps.ovi.com if you wish to build a Nokia app as well. The creation of this app works just like the other brands.

4. Once your apps are ready, you can download, use and promote them instantly. Although AndroidMarket doesn't accept gambling related apps and Apple and Nokia might also reject your app, there are some other interesting ways to freely promote your app.

5. Put your app on GetJar.com, a really big gaming site. Many casino brands already did this. Sign up for an account at developer.getjar.com and set up your app. You only have to setup one app and all your build codes (Android, Nokia etc.) can easily be integrated. If you have a mobile site too, this link can also be added.
Once approved and published (they have no problem with gambling), you get instant downloads and you can also setup a promotion campaign, which shows your app in the featured list. Your app can be downloaded at getjar, but you can also host them yourself, using their phone recognition script.

6. Promote your apps on your website, newsletter or whatever and use the link to getjar, so phonetypes will be automatically detected.

My app is live now for just a few days and it's already downloaded more than 2,000 times!

I'm still looking for other sites and ways to promote my app, but I think this is an easy and cheap way to get extra traffic.

So, if you're inspired to give it a shot, please share your experiences since it's quite new to me too :)

Cheers!
