I have a question.
What exactly is a affiliate manger and what role and duties do they have?

Thanks!

They are site reps, in charge of advising a promotions team, ie affiliates. - Although affiliates are freelance.

You will see the AM's around this forum letting you know about new games and promos, etc.

Affiliate duties

Gary!

it obviously varies with the numbers in affiliate teams, but some affiliate managers (single handedly) do more than others it seems!

Ranges from looking at new partners and negotiating deals. Answering a ton of sometimes annoying emails, dealing with affiliate payments, running marketing promotions to players issues resolutions (god i love those, not!)

did I forget to say optimizing existing affiliates for more business and better relationships. (thats thousands of sites that work with us on a day to day basis!)

briefing new creatives and updating vigorously all databases etc

the list goes on........endless seemingly, we are a hard working and a rare breed, please give us some credit :D

The duties of an affiliate manager vary from place to place.

They all are supposed to be answering questions from affiliates regarding the affiliate program.

They may or may not, work on the affiliate site, provide the banners (most order them from graphics), provide links, woo new affiliates, represent the casino to affiliates at conventions and and and...

Some places have large affiliate programs and employ many aff managers, some only have one.

Affiliate managers are paid widely varying wages and/or comissions.

They also have varying levels of decision making authority, from none to free decision power relating to % paid out to affiliates and many other decisions.

They have to state the T&C for affiliates on their websites.

www.affiliateguarddog.com monitors these and reports changes, since these are considered contracts and can't be changed retroactively (just like player T&Cs).

Most affiliate managers work very hard, and then of course there are some dead beats.

dominique answered most of it.

Myself I do work on the affiliate program a lot. I actually do quite a bit for thisisvegas but I still love my job and I think it helps to know how to do all the jobs related to the casino whether they are support issues for players, VIPs, answering questions all the way down to the same thing for affiliates themselves for similar items. There is a thread at CAP that asks the question what makes a good affiliate manager that is a good read.
