The Martingale system, is wherein players try to recoup losses and eventually end up ahead, providing, after each bet, they double up their bet.
Makes sense right? Eventually, laws of probability say your number has to hit.

Flaw #1: Casinos aren't stupid. It's why there are table limits.
Flaw #2: A roulette wheel doesn't have a memory. Even with an infinite bankroll, and infinite spins, and a casino with no table limit, your number may never hit (ok, yes, granted, at some point, due to randomness, it 'probably' will). But the system has and will bankrupt a lot of players.
