Very disturbing news from Las Vegas this morning with an ongoing situation involving multiple shooters and many injured. Obviously, we have some dear friends from this forum and wider community in the area at the moment.

Mandalay Bay, New York New York and Tropicana are the casinos mentioned with active shooters at the moment.

This is disgusting. I watched a video where you could hear the gunman laying on the trigger of a machine gun and hundreds of bullets being sprayed into the concert.

People on twitter that are there, saying people shot in the head

Many of our friends and colleagues are in Vegas right now for G2E, including the Casinomeister himself.

It's such a horrible world we live in now. I always viewed Vegas as one of the safest places ever. My thoughts are with everyone involved and the families. Such a shock.

Geez, this has all the making of the Bataclan shooting. Choose a big crowd and open fire. What makes it more horrific is the type of gun that has been used.

At least, indicates this was thoroughly planned.

One can only wish that the casualty numbers won't increase any further but as Lockinlove said, it wouldn't surprise anyone if that would be the case.

That shooter has one disturbed mind. A machine gun on innocent people, how much more disturbed can one person be!

Thanks for the link. What on earth drives a retiree to commit this kind of atrocity?

For the foreseeable future, people can't go for a relaxing weekend to LV without the question in their head "Will it happen again"?. Anyone who was there, knows how the main strip area looks every evening and especially on weekends. There are always big crowds.

From watching the video. The gunfire is from an automatic assault rifle.

These guns are not allowed in public hands ( for obvious reasons )

So he must of as least had contacts in the black market ( not likely) or he has had help from other means to obtain such weapons ( ????)

I could be wrong, but will be surprized if this is just a retiree who flipped for what ever reason. Too much planning for me.

According to the BBC:

Nevada has some of the least stringent gun laws in the United States.

People are allowed to carry weapons and do not have to register themselves as a gun-owner.

Background checks are done when people buy guns, but they are also allowed to sell them privately.

The state does not ban assault weapons, which include automatic or semi-automatic firearms.

I bet the good old gun ownership debate will soon start again.

Surely it is now time for some change to the law?

Death toll now over 50

Las Vegas shooting update.

UPDATE:

Several police press conferences later, reporters were informed that the shooter was a 64-year-old man resident in nearby Mesquite named Stephen Paddock.

He was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in a 32nd floor room at the Mandalay, where he had been staying since 28 September. Police reported that he had 8 firearms in the room.

The casualty list was also steadily updated and had reached over 50 dead and over 406 wounded by dawn Monday Las Vegas time...the largest mass shooting in US history.

The FBI is assisting local police in investigating the incident and trying to establish what motivated the shooter.

A German news site reporting that ISIS is claiming he operated under their instructions after converting to Islam some months ago. They published the "official message" in Arab.

This would be a bombshell. Although they made false claims in the past, it certainly is comparable to the Bataclan or Manchester shootings.

Difficult to find words in a situation like this. Many sympathies to the families of those who have loved ones who have been killed or injured.

It's at times like this I wish that I believed in Heaven & Hell. It would be comforting to think the piece of filth was going to spend eternity suffering. Unfortunately he has gone and the ones that are suffering are the innocent.

What is the matter with these people?

I find it really out there that a person that has lived almost an entire life time could be suddenly persuaded to do something so outrageous.

How can a person, load up a bunch of guns, stare at a crowd of parents and children, teenagers etc and be so cold they can just open fire on all of them not caring about who they hit.

Another thing about this isis crap, why target the kids and innocent? Its the government they should have a problem with (well maybe not because they despise and think we are all sinners).

Im not saying its better but blowing up government buildings, shooting up police stations seems like they should be targets. Last time I looked, what did a 7 year old girl do to anyone to deserve to lose their parents or their own life.

i had to stop watching the video where you hear the shots....it is chilling and heartbreaking....can't stop crying....

What amazes me is the time the gunman had. Reports vary, but it's anywhere between five and ten minutes before police arrived.

Five is shocking, but close to ten is not acceptable. Given how concert goers have become fair game for terrorists you'd have thought any such event would have one or two armed police present.

I Skyped to Simmo earlier, he was luckily about as far away from the incident as he could have been but obviously the place is in lockdown and what should have been a relaxing time for all the CM people there now is going to be overshadowed by this horror. :(
