Well,
Sitting here in my home sipping a nice cup of coffee on my day off.
As it is a bank holiday in The Netherlands (I work in Ireland but get to take my Dutch bank holidays).
Anyway, last Monday 3 colleague's and myself were told we are going to be made redundant.
My employer has sold the Belgian part of the company and solely will focus it's activities on the Irish market now.
We did see it coming and I already was shopping around for new jobs but yet still I feel a bit sad.
Have worked in this place for 7 years and made several new friends.
It just felt so trusted to go there every day from 8am to 5pm and now that is all gonna be finished from June 30th.
To avoid drama, I have already found a new job as it is not hard for bi-lingual people to find work in Ireland.
My next venture will start August 1st as I wanted to take a wee sabbatical, so after I finish up I will have a month for myself.
Fits perfect as my kids are off school for summer holidays too.
Positive part is that we got a decent redundancy package so I am now in the position to go and look for a newer and better car and I do not have to touch the savings for our holiday later this year.
So a bit of a double sided feeling.
Sad to leave the place and my friends and colleague's but also excited for the new challenge that lies ahead in my new job.
Anyone else ever had been made redundant?
For me this was a first time.
