Time for a break

OK, i conceed defeat.

I'm asking my casinos to give me a 6 month break from playing.

Why?

So i really got into online gambling during the death of a difficult relationship.

That took some time but it was a way of enjoying being at home and switching off from that situation.

When it was over, it was a way of avoiding processing the implications of being single again in my mid 30s, the anxiety and depression that'd i'd been left with after that relationship.

It became a crutch. And when it was going well, it was a damned exciting one.

But even on a good wage, i'd borrow when i was losing and pay it back when i was winning.

More than that, I'd lock myself away from the world rather than living my life. Then i'd feel all "woe is me" about why my life has been pretty shit.

This last few months i've played less, lived more and processed a lot of stuff.

At the same time, the games have played uniformly shit and i've come to the conclusion that it's not really fun.

A small one-off deposit once in a while, that is fun. Leaving a game running all day and shutting yourself off from the world, that is NOT fun. Especially over a prolonged period of time.

I've found myself on occasions desperate to play but skint because i'd wasted more than i care to think of chasing wildlines.

Sure, i got my fair share and sometimes ended up with a decent bit of spending money and would treat myself. Gambling wins have paid for holidays, clothes, electronic gear, nights out, nights in, the lot.

BUT. I could have easily paid for those things by not playing and i could have been out meeting new people and creating memories.

Summer is coming up and i'm determined that's what i'm going to do.

Over the last year or so i've worked down from 16 stone to just under 13. I've tentatively quit smoking and vaping and have met one or two people who are without a shadow of a doubt the most important and wonderful people i've ever known.

Couple of them i'm due a few freebies for a bit longer so i'll take those but have put the lowest possible and longest duration deposit limits on.

Just thought i'd share this with you all because, although many of us come to this point do so with a negative mindset, i'm doing so with quite the opposite. Can't wait for some time away from a screen hoping for a win.

Good luck to you all and all the best.

Sure i'll be around as you're a good community.

As for the casino staff - thanks guys, no offence at all. Sure i'll be back for a bit in the autumn!

Good luck with it. I am in a similar boat to you. I closed all of my casino accounts and am taking a break of at least 6 months. It was no longer fun seeing losing deposit after deposit with no play time at all.

Thanks, you too!

Definitely, but you know, i'm quite glad in a way, kick up the arse i needed.

Put limits on ages ago but some where easier to put them on than others so i just played at the others.

As an aside, one thing the UKGC should be hot on is making all responsible gaming options easily found and user controlled rather than having to go via support.
