As some maybe aware my virgin account was hacked last week.
It's been on the news this morning for all virgin media customers to change there passwords.
I attempted to log in ten minutes ago, they blocked my password.
So I've successfully changed it (again) I only wanted to pay the daily free game, but found a cash balance of £29.50 and 52 VP that I never had.
I did complain to them and ask why it took them days to inform me my account was hacked, they got back to me last week just basically apologising, no goodwill or anything so I left it at that.
Now I'm curious as to where the balance and VP points have came from, I've not been informed I was given anything free :-/

Must look at mine too then lol.
Haven't played there in ages but maybe I have some mystery balance and VP too. :D

I've been hacked again.
Some scum bag has been playing on my account since the 22nd. Hundreds spent using netteller. I've just cancelled a £300 withdrawal the person tried to make on my account.
So now my balance is £329.50p
Going to ring virgin now.

I am not happy I am a Virgin games user new nothing of this why haven't they sent an email or put a message on the home page, why does it have to be casinomeister where you find this out?

They knew of the attack a long time ago, look at my first post about it. They knew a week before I even posted that mate

Virgin & Starspins often drop bonus money in can be £25 without a message so it could be that is what happened.

My account is still ok. Had a £150 bonus drop in the other day out of the blue so they do give out freebies from time to time

WoW that is serious mate...
Why would a hacker use third party accounts to play...I assume they fund the account with hacked Neteller and Skrill accounts then also?

It's been hacked. Using a card from a bank I don't have a account with and also neteller which I don't use.
They told me to track the cards myself and investigate myself, they provided ip addresses for doing that, but I'm terrible with tech stuff.
However they let me keep the £300 I reversed and also the mystery balance of £29.50

Report it to the police as effectively what they are doing is fraud - their e-crimes unit will be able to identify them from the ip address.

Not quite understand how this scam works they deposit money into an account and hope to win a big amount then withdraw?

Surely they would wait for someone to play then withdraw when they got a high balance.

Maybe it's teen hackers just having some gambling fun all a bit weird though.

I'll post the screenshot of the transactions shortly, apparently the hackers access people's passwords via a 3rd party on the dark web. And use trial and error to access accounts. Turned out ok for me as the £300 the hacker tried to withdrawal I reversed and was allowed to keep, so I'll have a nice slot session tonight at there expense. Hopefully a 4 figure cashout.
I've set new memorable words and passwords etc, also placed a block on any deposits or withdrawals on my account.

I wouldn't use the funds that were left in the account as that's tantamount to being seen as an accomplice to Fraud. I would seriously ask them to forfeit it so that you're on the safe side of the law.

What is particularly worrying is that even when the player changes their password, their account is hacked again, and quite easily. Coupled with the lack of information from the operator, how can players know what to do to keep their accounts safe.

Even if players can keep what they find left behind once they get their accounts back from the hacker, the problem remains that the account is forever tainted, and it's possible that one day the rightful owner of the funds put through the account will want them back. The bank will be obliged to refund victims of fraud, and the banks may then try to retrieve this money. This could lead to Virgin Games having to give back the money they have allowed the hacker to withdraw, and also the money they have allowed victim players to keep. This might tempt them to reverse their goodwill towards these victims in an effort to retrieve some of this money.

These operators should be doing more to prevent this. It shouldn't be possible to fund an account with someone else's card or Neteller account, yet checks are only made on funding ownership when significant withdrawals are made, they are not made when the money goes in, yet it should be a simple matter to verify that the funding source is registered to the same person as the casino account.

Rather than do their legwork for them, accept the information they have sent with good grace, and close the account making it absolutely clear that it is NOT "self exclusion". If the player is not out of pocket, they have no need to fund the investigation themselves simply so that they can repair the damage and continue losing their own money at Virgin games.

Was told by a security manager the funds are mine. All calls are recorded I trust so I should be ok.
Strange thing is the netteller account is still open on my virgin account. Trying to remove it as I've never even had a neteller account, might try a deposit with it lol, only kidding.

I don't understand how Virgin can let you keep the money. The account has obviously been used using money from hacked accounts so therefore fraudulently obtained, the money does not belong to Virgin to advise anyone to keep it, this is just extending the fraud line - be careful they don't come back asking for the money back later on, especially considering you have nothing in writing, as someone is sure to miss the money and an investigation ensue.

I thought that. But was assured it was mine to use. I explained I've never had any of the cards that where used to deposit also I've never had a neteller account.
I traced the 2 ip's one in redhill and the other gosport in the uk.

Report it to the police, some poor soul is probably well out of pocket and it may stop them from trying this again :)

Enjoy you're play time :D

I'm thinking of that. But surerly a fraud investigation at virgin will be doing that?
My bank hasn't been compromised they where just using my account to make loads of deposits, the one time they tried to make a withdrawal I reversed it lol. Just lucky timing the time I signed in I guess.

Just a quick update. I've contacted the police who are visiting me tomorrow between 1 and 8 and also filed a fraud complaint with action fraud.
Basically it was separate bank cards that made deposits totalling £300 exactly and the fraudster had attempted to withdraw to a neteller, luckily I cancelled that withdrawal.
The scary bit is after speaking to virgin again the security code (3 numbers on the back of the card where used for each deposit) so someone physically has 4 bank cards in my name.
Virgin are saying it's not there fault one bit and it's because of a third party attack via the dark web. They have launched a internal investigation and will get back to me within 2 working days....
Makes me wonder how safe it really is playing online now :-/
