It's taken me a little time to write up my trip report of my visit to the Evolution Gaming Studios in Riga, Latvia.

Highlights

I spent a day being given a full tour of the offices and studios.

I got to meet the key players who run the operation with the exception of the Head of Compliance & Risk, who I'm due to have a Skype meeting with in a few weeks.

  • The building is very big, 9 floors of studios, lots of dedicated studio areas as well as the general play tables.
  • Security is tight, no phones or cameras are allowed on the studio floors.
  • There's a very impressive Mission Control Room, monitoring all games and dealer performance.
  • Sophisticated software tools are used to monitor game play for all sorts of things.
  • The games themselves are run as you'd find in a land based casino. Nothing is automated, everything is manual. The only software used is for monitoring and recording actions so they can be fed back to the Playing interfaces.
  • In fact the level of monitoring far exceeds anything that goes on in land based casinos. They have to rely on the eyes in the sky and pit bosses for monitoring.
  • As you'd expect from the market leader, all aspects of the company are presented professionally. Their IT dept, both Support and development are as I would expect to see, using modern agile development methodologies.
  • Their customer support team is large and operates like a modern Service / Help desk for both Operators and players.
  • There's loads of very attractive dealers.
  • Training of the dealers is very thorough.

The size of the operation is immense when you compare it to the other studios I've visited. They are very much the leaders in their field and the other providers and constantly in catch up mode. What's really impressive is the technology they use and how they have been able to provide HD quality streaming on a consistent basis. Something all the other providers struggle with.

I'm very much looking forward to speaking to the Head of Compliance so I'll document that when it happens.

Great stuff Neil. Almost all my casino time nowadays is spent playing on the Evolution live tables so your report was really interesting.

Glad to hear that. What do you play? I'm a blackjack player but I really love playing Ultimate Texas Hold'em at the moment. Shame my bank balance doesn't agree.

Usually blackjack but sometimes roulette la partage. It's a lot more fun playing live blackjack vs. RNG blackjack but a shame you can't double down after splits on Evolution. Probably made up for by the fact "there's loads of very attractive dealers" haha.

So true. You can double on splits at Playtech Live Casinos. Their rules have become more favourable over the last 12 months as they try to compete with Evolution. They have the choice of Vegas or European rules tables which is a vast improvement.

I'm hoping to go visit them next month.

If you get to visit Playtech, can you find this dealer and thank her for my straight flush blackjack? :p
