Hey guys! I don't want to bother you with my silly questions but I am not sure about what I need in terms of specs for a new laptop.

I used to have an i5 with 8GB memory but it was stolen from me. This computer was perfectly fine and cost me 800$ last year.
I am now looking to buy a new one but I don't want to overpay for nothing.

The only thing I do is browing the internetz, playing slots from time to time, stream movies, download things :) and multi-table poker.

Is buying another i5 a complete waste of money? I see some 300-400$ CAD laptops intel celeron/amd 4 GB ram with windows 7 or 8....

I would REALLY enjoy an anti-glare screen but it seems that it's only available for gaming laptops starting at 1200$.

I would never buy a laptop ( I hate it )but I live in a small appartment with my girlfriend and her 3 young kids so I have absolutely no space for a pc and a proper desk... the only place I can enjoy some playtime is in my bed... I know... it sucks...

Thanks for your suggestions!

edit* What do you think about these models and prices? Is it too much for my use?

Oh I thought my post dissapeared and I was insane hahaha :) I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread....I have my answer now thanks

I'd need to check the GPUs of those processors but off the cuff I'd say the i5 may be more than you need, the i3 is probably about right and the Celeron may be under-powered. I've played with an N3540 Chromebook and it was a fair bit laggy, not too impressive given that all I was doing was surfing and looking at YouTube videos.

I am looking at these 2 model online and there is no other info... What would be a satisfying GPU? You kind of lost me there...

Modern Intel processors like the i3 and i5 have a graphics processor -- the "GPU" -- built into the chip. The idea is that for modest graphics requirements the processor + its on-chip GPU can handle the job alone, as opposed to requiring a separate graphics card to be installed in the system. There are various flavours of the Intel on-chip GPUs and the question is whether the one on any given processor model will be adequate for your needs. That's the bit that needs a little research.

Ok, of the processors you mentioned the Intel I3-5005U is a modestly powered CPU, has Intel HD Graphics 5500 GPU which is decent for basic stuff and should be okay for your needs. You may get some lagging on fancy casino graphics but as long as you're not running a 4K display (not likely given the laptops you're looking at) you should be okay most of the time.

The Pentium N3540 is lower powered and has vanilla Intel HD Graphics. My guesstimate would be "not recommended" for your stated needs.

You asked "Is buying another i5 a complete waste of money?" I'd say "certainly not!" but of course it all depends on specifics: which i5? how much?

Ok, I will choose between these models that are at my local store... I thought about buying one online on the newegg.ca website but I am not familliar with buying computers online...The i5 is exactly what I bought a year ago and it was exactly the same price. The only difference is that I had windows 8 on it. Shouldnt it be a little less expensive than a year ago? Should I go for the i7 at this price difference? You're choice will be mine :)

Thanks Max!
