So DID you EVER make money on a consistent basis playiner online poker?
I often get the feeling it's really not that different from slots if you/re not a guru with rakeback deals,
blacking a zillion tables at once like a maniac.
Also I have the feeling these days there are quite a few bots playing, which are definitely above
the ranks of fish and mediocre players.
I think it's easier to make money .... doing ANYTHING else, really.
Playing slots maybe ?
Yer, during my lazy days i played at 888. Sometimes 1 table, mostly 2. Rarely but sometimes 3. Mostly 9 seater cash games.
I would never end the day down, i was very confident in my game and al l the regulars respected me. I was cashing out weekly but leaving in enough to play, i had no other income and spent so much time playing it got to the point i would turn poker on before making breakfast in the morning.
Fish and especially stations helped the bankroll, and 888 was full of them .. but i preferred playing better players as it kept my game sharp, when i eventually startex chasing stations (sounds like a song name lol) my game dropped a bit as vs those people you are only ever really value betting and never making plays or doing bluffs.
In the end i gave up and got a job lol... but yes, i judged it on weekly profits but there was very rare i had 1 day that didnt result in profit..
I was mostly as said, playing 888 on 12/25c blinds.. occasioanly the odd 5/10 table at the same time.
The real kicker was the casino. I knew my habits (hence my name i was given by people in the arcade in my town before it closed down, where i made money on awp fruit machines) knew my habits in that i couod get addicted to the slots so always avoided it on 888. Then one day i tried, and before i knew it i was donating a large portion of my poker profit into the casino slots as it was 1 click away and the casino wouldnt block me from the slots lol. And it affected my game because i would chase calling stations in poker to gauruntee more funds when my balance was very low very often after donating to the slots, to the point my game suffered as a result as i was not playing like i would before vs good players and i also had the need of money on my mind a lot. Up till then i didnt care who i played on that limit, the profit was very consistant. But so were the hours. 888 was ridiculously loose at the time, player wise.
Edit: and i never played with rakeback, i didnt even know about it until the last few months before stopping lol. Such a dumb thing, missed out on thousands!
My biggest tilt was 300 down on 12/25nl lol. I was drunk and lost it, that was a significant amount i ended up pushing all in pre like 50 times almost in a row vs 8 other players.. but when i actually picked up kk i pushed again, at that point i was playing with my last buy in lol.. and a german lady who also played every single day called me next to act with ak. I knew she wouldnt be calling light and sunk my head thinking its going to be qq kk or aa. She had ak, hit the ace,, and i just sulked. Knowing me as a reg, she told me to sit on another table and would chip dump the 25 back to me, ill never forget that generosity as i had literally 20 bucks to myname, not that she knew.. but she had seen me tilt off 250-300.
I declined but she insisted, and gave me about 22 back which i managed to get my roll back up with. Her nick was witten(something) . I never did fully explain just how greatful i was to her for that, but it was such a kind thing to do. I had already accepted the loss but she said she meant to call not realizing i had gone all in.
I also remember one guy coming down from high stakes on tilt, said he had lost about 10k in a few bad beats. He proceeded to sit on the table and push all in every single hand on 12/25 for well over an hour, regardless if he had won and trebbled up he'd just keep doin it, while it was sad to see it was also kind of hilarious... you had a waiting list of about 25 people to join the table lol and never saw a flop during that time. And a few arguments where one would call his all in for 100 (everyone had huge stacks as a result, on a 25 buy in table) and occasinally someone else wojld call as well.. and ud see the first caller shit his pants and say WTF U DOIN MAN!! that particular guy had kk and so did the guy who called his kk and the initial tilter who had absolute crap with the all in push. The nutter lost just over 1k on 25nl before leaving. Gave me about 175 :/ .
