Delaware Lawmakers Clear Online Gambling Bill

Delaware's legislature on Wednesday passed a law that could make the state the first to open its population to a full range of legal online gambling, including Internet blackjack, poker and slot games.

The bill is expected to be signed by the state's governor and comes in the wake of a Justice Department legal interpretation last year that allowed states to authorize Internet gambling within their borders.

That was quick the Governor of Delaware signed the online gambling bill today.

First state for casino style games, second for legal online poker.

If I read this right though you have to live within that state. So for those that don't live within the states that legalize it, we are no better off than now?

Nevertheless, this is a landmark development that sets the scene for other states and in its way (because it authorises online gambling more generally) it is as significant as Nevada passing into law the legitimacy of online poker (subject to either Congressional or DoJ approval)


Delaware plans to get things going early next year, which will shake up both the US industry and the political establishment and perhaps generate more developments.

Gooooo Delaware!! Let's get that ball moving!! Once one, then a few more states legalize online gambling, I think it will snowball.

Of course, I don't think my state (Alabama) will ever legalize it... but for those outside the Bible Belt, you just might see online gambling legal in several states by the time the 2016 election comes around.

If various states legalize online gambling within their respective borders, what kind of casino software will they likely use? Would it be an already established software like Microgaming, Playtech or an entirely new software? Would they build their own state proprietary casino software?

Not meaning to piss on anyone`s fireworks but this would mean individual casino`s having to base themselves in the respective states and thus liable to pay taxes, which could and probably will be compensated by a lower RTP, which in turn would mean no-one outside the state would play there for obvious reasons, so imho you would not see any of the market leading software`s any time soon, maybe when more states follow suit and the huge player base would make it way more profitable.

But anyway`s it most definitely is a move in the right direction WTG American gambling community .

It's an interesting question, because there are a number of European outfits with prop. software who have already cleared their pre-UIGEA history by paying millions to the US government, so they would presumably be in the clear, especially in partnerships with US companies (think Bwin.Party, 888, Will Hill). For most of this year particularly there have been reports of companies like Playtech manouevreing for position through partnerships with American outfits.

Then there is Canada, where several major providers have established a foothold through the provincial online gambling enterprises - I would imagine they would be keenly interested in entering the US market if they could prove a clean record ito UIGEA.

The US itself has a wealth of software development talent that could deploy into the sector, and some that already have - US Digital for example is a company that has been exceptionally active over the past year in building a professional profile for itself in the US business.

The Aussie provider Aristocrat has a base in the US which it is expanding, and has also been active in partnering with companies like Bally.

And don't forget Fertitta Interactive acquired Cyberarts, whilst IGT and Bally have both been active in building online capability through acquisitions and internal development.

In summary, imo there will be no shortage of online gambling software providers and developers in any US internet gambling market that may ensue.

that's a really great news! hope other states would follow Delaware soon, I read that they want to introduce new state law before Parliament does it.
