Schlappelseppel

Is this a spelling contest :) Happy I dont have to pronounce it in german.

*SIGH*

Zoozie was about 10 listings ahead of me (on the bottle cap catalogue, lol).

In the event spelling DOES count.....

Schlappeseppel

Congrats Zoozie!

So, is the little guy on the bottle cap supposed to be the limping brewer?

PS- The masterful, original beer, named after Schlappeseppel, the first royal brewer in Aschaffenburg, who made the first brew for Swedish King Gustav-Adolph and his soldiers in Aschaffenburg as early as 1631.

Schlappeseppel is a small brewery (part of Eder & Heyland group though) in the city of Aschaffenburg which lies about 40 km east of Frankfurt, but actually is part of the State Bavaria.

Its history goes back as far as the 17th century when durring the Thirty Year’s war, the Swedish King Gustav who occupied the city requested a beer being brewed. The man everyone called “Schlapper Seppel” (lame Seppel), because of his limping, brewed the first beer in this brewery and the tradition has been kept until today.

To elaborate-
In 1631 during the Thirty Years’ War, the Swedish king Gustav Adolf – famous subjugator of this war — occupied Aschaffenburg. To the dismay of the king’s court, and the beer-loving king himself, they found the city to be dry of such tasty alcoholic beverages. In order to remedy this sad predicament the court found a soldier skilled in the art of brewing beer. Because of the soldier’s lame foot, he was dubbed Schlappe Seppel, which means “weak”, and the name carried on to the beer he created, Schlappeseppel. This story could be more fiction than nonfiction, but the city’s inhabitants like to believe the latter, and so does this author. Today’s Schlappeseppel beer is the favorite brew of the area and won several international awards. The brewery tavern of the same name is thus a hotspot for both natives and tourists to enjoy this beer, as well as dine on hearty brewery and regional dishes. The tavern is located down the street from Schloss Johannisburg.

LOL Bingo good try throwing in the "pics" requirement!
I think we also need to add the rule that you have to actually travel to the brewery, take a tour, write a thousand page synapsis, and bring Bryan a case ;)

I live in Germany so it's not hard for me to get the finest beer, however: Good luck to the winner! Enjoy your beer (don't dare to take the money instead! :D)

WASTED MY TIME ... again !

Posted my reply as a private message (didn't have the answer anyway ... )
But you threw me with the reference to "the Swedes"

Yay!! The winner!!

It's a great place to hang out as well. I ride my bike down there occasionally and chill out. It's hard to get a seat there in the evening even on week nights, especially in the summer.

Schlappen means slippers by the way. The guy supposedly had such bad feet that he wore slippers all the time. They didn't make army boots back then as they do now.

I'm going to be out all week for family vacation (Rome), but you'll be getting your beer when I get back

Meister says beer is on the way to me!

I can only hope it will be this beer:
