    Question Question

    Hello Mary,

I recently posted some questions regarding advertising at the
    GPWA
. The very first part of the first response that I received was a flame towards you. I don't know you, nor did I mention your name at all in my post.

I don't want to pick at old wounds or start a flaming war, but I am interested in learning what all of this is about.

If you don't mind, could you possibly enlighten me to this situation, or if it is old news, provide me with a link ?

    Thanks,

    Wayne

    The short reply:

I think the affiliate model of online casino marketing creates ethical conflicts that lead to deceptive practices on the parts of all parties involved: casinos, webmasters, players. This is a systemic issue, not necessarily a character issue, but it corrupts relationships. It's not a popular opinion.

Another reason: go to www.thiscasinosucks.com and read the posts there.

I'm not into flaming, at least I try. I enjoy writing, and I hope the contributions I make to message boards stand on their own merits. You can go to bet2gamble.com and read my article about bonus hunters to get an idea of my thinking.

    Hi Mary,

    Thank you for the reply!

I completely agree with what you said about affiliate programs. Perhaps I should have initially asked my questions to you.

I understand that deception can occur at the casino (not paying webmasters, or fudging click-thru's), on the webmaster's end (promoting crooked casinos because they will pay), but I haven't quite figured out how players would get ripped... Unless of course you mean that they would be enticed into playing at crooked casinos. I think I just answered my own question, but if you have anything to add please feel free.

As for my other question - I can only read so many flames and rude comments before my head starts to spin. It looks like a big soap-opera and doesn't concern me.

Also, I read your article on bonus hunters. It was quite interesting.

    Thanks for the heads up,

    Wayne

Crooked casinos and crooked webmasters can always promise more than fair ones. I think that is a real problem.

We're going to be closing out this forum section soon--it doesn't get much traffic--and I'm going on vacation for a week. When I get back, we can discuss industry dynamics in the Industry section. I enjoy that.
