30 October 2003 Issue #169 weekly Happy Halloween my dear reader,
Hopefully this season is a time of reflection for you, like Edgar Allen Poe reflected in the dusty past. Reflecting, observing, and mesmerizing us 150 years later with the "Conqueror Worm". |

Out- out are the lights- out all! And, over each quivering form, The curtain, a funeral pall, Comes down with the rush of a storm, While the angels, all pallid and wan, Uprising, unveiling, affirm That the play is the tragedy, "Man," And its hero the Conqueror Worm. |

As most of you know, Casinomeister was relaunched this past summer with "navigation" as the primary improvement. There is a ton on information that is easier to access, and many of you have shown your appreciation. Thanks! Next step is the forum; the message board. Many of you are aware that Casinomeister's forum is one of the oldest on the "net" dating back to 1998, thus it is huge and contains a wealth of information. As I write, it's in the process of being completely revamped and will be relaunched using a different platform. Casinomeister's forum will become the "state of the art" message board probably blowing most of you away with many cool and helpful user applications. There is no set relaunch date yet, but it should happen in a week or two. And speaking of the forum...there was a unfortunate event this past weekend where a street brawl broke out and all mayhem ensued. There was a disgusting barrage of profanity that alienated a number of users, and I was rather shocked by the disregard of some of the posters who considered this appropriate. This will never be tolerated again. I expect members of the forum to not resort to name calling. Name calling will terminate your user account and you'll just have to move on to somewhere else. I've been running this board for over five years now, and I have never seen such a display of disregard for other member sensitivities. The forum is not your doormat nor your instrument of anger. If you want to fight, take it somewhere else. Thanks! |

| EUROPEAN I-GAMING CONGRESS AND EXPO | |||||||||
| The 11-12 of November is the European I-Gaming Congress and Expo being held in Barcelona, Spain. It's touted as being Europe's largest and most comprehensive i-gaming event, which is undeniably true. Hosted jointly by the River City Group and ATE http://www.ateonline.co.uk/conferences/eig/ it's being attended by most the most serious contenders in this industry. Why? I'll tell you why, there is a ton of information that operators need to be schooled in, and this is the place to do it. The primary focus is Europe, and this should be a major interest to everyone since we all are aware, the US government is consistently trying to solve its citizens' problems with misguided blundering attempts at prohibition like this one. I'm not even going to get into how screwed up this is, but if these self serving "lawmakers" make it happen, casino operators need to be ready for this. It should be part of their contingency, because who wants to market an online casino in a hostile environment. Here operators can get answers. There are a number of discussions that I'm really looking forward to especially one on Problem Gambling. There are a lot of players out there who have big gambling problems, (hopefully you aren't one of them my dear ${token2}). Operators should know how they should be protecting their players with safeguards or whatever is emplaced to ensure players don't go ballistic with their kids' college funds. Another topic I'm looking forward to is the small jurisdictions update. There are a number of small jurisdictions in Europe that offer licensing to online casinos, Malta, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Alderney, etc. I'd like to know what safeguards these jurisdictions have to offer the player. Check out their website at eigexpo.com and see if this is something that interests you. It's still not too late to register. As for players, well why should you care about these expos and conferences? Well the information that is presented and disseminated affects you in the long run, since this is all geared towards you. I'll have my eyes peeled and let you know the nitty gritty of what is going on, and how exactly this event will affect your participation in this industry. |

Return to Top 3. This week's humor Little Tommy was doing very badly in math. His parents had tried everything; flash cards, special learning centers, in short, everything they could think of. Finally in a last dash effort, they took Tommy down and enrolled him in the local Catholic school. After the first day, little Tommy comes home with a very serious look on his face. He doesn't kiss his mother hello. Instead, he goes straight to his room and start studying. Books and papers are spread out all over the room and little Tommy is hard at work. His mother is amazed. She calls him down to dinner and she was shocked, the minute he is done he marches back to his room without a word and in no time he is back hitting the books as hard as before. This goes on for sometime, day after day while the mother tries to understand what made all the difference. Finally, little Tommy brings home his report card. He quietly lays it on the table and goes up to his room and hits the books. With great trepidation, his mom looks at it and to her surprise, little Tommy got an A in math. She can no longer hold her curiosity. She goes to his room and says, Son, what was it? Was it the nuns? Little Tommy looks at her and shakes his head. Well, then, she replies, was it the books, the discipline, the structure, the uniforms? What was it? Little Tommy looks at her and says, Well, on the first day of school, when I saw that guy nailed to the plus sign, I knew they weren't fooling around. ha ha ha | |||||||||

Most of you are probably unaware of this since I haven't mentioned this before in my newsletters, but I've always had a close connection to Halloween mainly because of my belief in the "supernatural". Actually, it's not supernatural at all since spirits are a real part of our natural life. Ghosts appear in every cultures' literature, myths, legends, and religion. Ghosts are real. I've had three encounters, maybe four, with what could be described as hauntings. I kid you not. But what has always intrigued me, is how some photographers have captured images of ghosts on film by accident. This here was passed on to me by one of my readers who lives on the East Coast. Apparently he bought a house and he and his wife had been seeing images and hearing voices for quite a while. They did some research and found that a woman once lived in the house who lost her husband during the American Civil War. Legend says that she used to sit at her kitchen table and look across the fields in anticipation of her loved one returning home. He never came. So, they say she still waits. He took a photo of his kitchen and in this photo you can see her. This is really trippy because there is sound as well (he did a recording). You can find the ghost in the picture, but at first it's really hard to detect. It took me about 30 seconds to find it, but when you do it just stands out. Like one of those weird 3D optical illusions. To save you some time, concentrate looking around the table. Best not to focus too much on one spot. Look around the table and towards the window. Best to enlarge if you can. For an added touch turn up the volume on your speakers before opening, it's faint but you can hear the ghost talking sometimes in a low murmur, but you can hear what she is saying. Anyway on the link below: It takes a while for your eyes to see it... Focus and concentrate.... Be patient, it's pretty amazing once you actually see it. http://home.attbi.com/~n9ivo/whatswrong.swf Little Old Woman Author- unknown Bath County, Kentucky This story was told to me many years ago by my mother. This really happened. One time when Mother was a little girl, her parents moved their family into an old house, which was located somewhere in Bath County, Kentucky. No one else would live in that house, because according to the former tenants, the house was haunted. My grandparents were desperate for a house to rent, so they overlooked the ghost stories and moved their family into the spooky old house. Mother slept downstairs on the living room couch. One rainy night she couldn't go to sleep, so she decided to get up and look out the window and watch the rain come down. She pressed her hands and face against the window pane and looked out at the rain. Flashes of lightening illuminated the sky, and what she saw next would have frightened a lot of adults out of their wits, especially the ones who had heard and believed the ghost stories. Mother saw a little old woman walking around the yard, carrying a big knife in one hand, and a basket in the other one. The old woman would dig up something out of the ground and put it into the basket. Most children would have run and jumped into bed with their parents, but not Mother. She was curious, so she stayed to see what was going on. She watched the old woman for a few minutes, and then all of a sudden, the old woman turned and looked toward the window. She walked right up to the window, pressed her face and the palms of her hands right against it, and looked right into Mother's face. They stood there staring at each other for a few seconds, and then the old woman turned around and walked away. After Mother told me this bizarre story, I asked her, "Were you scared?" She answered, "No, I just wondered what she was doing out there." I have been wondering the same thing for more than half a century. Who was that little old woman, and why was she digging up my grandparent's yard in the middle of the night, during a rainstorm? Maybe she was just out looking for night crawlers. Who knows? Anyway, whoever she was, she was probably the reason that the landlord couldn't keep tenants very long. They didn't know who she was, what she was doing, why she was doing it, and they certainly didn't intend to stay around there long enough to find out.
