2. And now for the humor......

There was an old man, a boy and a donkey. They were going to
town and it was decided that the boy should ride. As they
went along they passed some people who thought that it was
a shame for the boy to ride and the old man to walk.
The man and boy decided that maybe the critics were right
so they changed positions. Later, they passed some more
people who thought that it was a real shame for that man to
make such a small boy walk. The two decided that maybe
they both should walk.
Soon they passed some more people who thought that it was
stupid to walk when they had a donkey to ride. The man and
the boy decided maybe the critics were right so they decided
that they both should ride.
They soon passed other people who thought that it was a
shame to put such a load on a poor little animal. The old
man and the boy decided that maybe the critics were right
so they decided to carry the donkey.
As they crossed a bridge they lost their grip on the animal
and it fell into the river and drowned.
The moral of the story is...if you try to please everyone,
you will eventually lose your ass.

Ha ha, from me.

5. London: My Magical Mystery Tour
part II of III

It was just a week ago that I returned from the International Casino Exhibition
in London. And since then I've been letting my mind regurgitate the events and
meanderings I exposed myself to.

The first day of the conference (Tuesday) wasn't to begin until 1100. So I
woke early
anticipating a full morning of shopping! Ha! There was a mall within a half
hour walk
from the hotel, and I figured I could get an hour's worth of shopping done
before
"show time." My main concern was finding some book stores with books, etc.
in ENGLISH. Oops, the mall opened at nine, but the stores didn't open until
TEN.
Big waste of time, but I did get a chance to stroll through Kensington
Gardens,
which was virtually empty. Took a picture of Kensington Palace (where Queen
Victoria was born) and saw a lot of dogs. My trip to the mall wasn't totally
wasted since I picked up a movie guide (movies in English!) which I took
advantage of later.

Well, time to meet the casinos. Spearmaster met back at the hotel, and we
made our way to the convention center. Upon arrival he whipped out his
"name tag" (sent to him via snail mail), and I whipped out my crumpled up
printed out email pass, which I was required to exchange for my "name tag."
What a madhouse. I planned on meeting the Spearmaster later, since it
was taking me about an hour to get through the line to in. Once in, my
head was spinning. Every conceivable video arcade game was in full
operation; teenaged ray-gunslinging hero wannabees were waxing the
hell out of kung-fu aliens (there were three conventions in one, gamers
included). I finally made it upstairs to the more calmer mellower section,
the online casinos. What a relief; and what a shock. The first booth that
was clearly visible, besides Boss Media's, was GSS's. I thought it was
quite brave for them to show face after the incredible amount of exposure
the Players Fortune fiasco has given them. I was amazed that they actually
showed up, but what the hell, perhaps it was good that they did.

I talked to Mark Waters and wanted to hear his side of the story, and he
stated that they had made mistakes and wish he could do it all over again.
More power to 20/20 hindsight. I mentioned that one thing that has always
concerned me besides providing honest and fair games, customer service,
blah blah blah, is the appearance and presentation of the casinos.
Unfortunately, there is no quality control when it comes to casinos that
GSS licenses. Some of the GSS casinos look absolutely horrible;
slapped together at the spur of the moment with misspellings to boot.
Domain names that run just short of aminalfarmsexcasino.com don't
help much either. Piss poor quality gives the industry a bad name.
I think Mark was listening and he agreed that there should be some
quality control. I hope he took these thoughts home with him.

Next week: I make it to the convention, (again), a rondez-vous with Mike
Craig, I see a movie in English (finally), Dickens, and Jack the Ripper.

6. Feature Article
Making the jump from land-based to online casinos
by Spearmaster

Part 6 - Read the fine print before you gamble online

When you gamble in a land-based casino, in most cities rules
are generally the same - except Vegas, which usually has slightly
different blackjack rules for the Strip and downtown. For the most
part, you can be pretty confident that you will not have to meet
various terms and conditions other than age and perhaps dress code.

However, when gambling online, every casino seems to have
different rules - whether it is the terms of play when receiving
a bonus, cash-out rules, proof of identity, etc. In order to
protect your investment, it is extremely important to read the
terms and conditions posted on their website before you gamble.

The most important thing to check is the conditions for cashing
out winnings. Casinos vary greatly in paying winnings - some
may only offer the option of paying you by check, while others
offer anything from Western Union and wire transfer to checks,
express mail drafts and even online debit cards and methods
such as Infinia or NETeller. Some casinos charge for certain
types of payments, others are free. Some tell you checks
take 4-6 weeks for payment, others will Fedex payments to
you so you have winnings within 3-5 days.

Confusing, isn't it?

Take extra care when studying these conditions - this will save
you a lot of time and trouble later. The most frequent complaint
by an online gambler inevitably involves slowness or non-receipt
of payments, so make sure that the casino you choose to gamble
at is using some recognized institution or transactions processor
to handle their payments - Firecash (although they recently
encountered some hiccups) is generally considered to be safe
and used by a number of the larger casinos.

Avoid any casino which uses the Bank of Nevis for check payments,
as this bank has been blacklisted by the Organization for
Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) - most banks
generally follow the recommendations of the OECD, and as such
checks issued by the Bank of Nevis will probably not be honored.

The second important thing to look out for is the terms and
conditions under which a bonus is granted. At the better casinos,
you will usually only be required to wager the amount of the
deposit plus the amount of the bonus once through before you
may cash out the proceeds. Some require that you play through
the money twice - and some as many as SIX times before you
can cash out. Try to avoid those - you will generally end up
giving back the bonus and a sizeable amount of your deposit
unless you should get lucky and hit a slots jackpot, for example.

Also, as discussed in an earlier installment, do NOT open multiple
accounts at casinos - this is nothing short of fraud and you can
and may be prosecuted for this type of activity. Although this
warning is not often posted on websites, it is generally accepted
that multiple accounts, especially when using multiple identities,
is considered abuse.

The author of a web gambling book, Bill Haywood, recently supported
the opening of multiple accounts using different identities in a
message forum, calling casino owners nothing better than used
car salesmen and implying that they are deserving of such manipulation.
It just goes to prove that you should not always trust those who are
hypocritical of the very industry from which they make their money.

Once you've sorted though that information, the last important thing
you should check before proceeding to gamble is the rules of the
game you intend to play - typically this is more important at table-type
games such as blackjack, Caribbean Stud and baccarat than it is
at slot machines and video poker. These rules are often not the
same as you are used to getting in Vegas, although many of
them claim to comply with Vegas rules.

A final note - though payout schedules and strategies are not
"fine print" per se, it is important as a gambler to find the best
rules in order to maximize your potential winnings. Especially
important is to see how video poker pays out - information sites
like The Wizard of Odds (http://www.thewizardofodds.com)
and GameMaster (http://www.gamemasterlist.com) provide
useful strategy and profit potential information which can help
guide you in your gambling exploits.
