Never been somebody to make tons of resolutions for a new year as I think that one can be made on the spot when you come to a decision regarding your life, there is no need for that number to increase by one, meaning to wait for the New Year.

Anyway, the last few weeks I had thoughts brewing in my head, so much that they ended now in a firm plan for the near future, and before you ask --> NO, I won't give up smoking, gambling and occasional drinking and partying. :D

1. Cut work hours to the bare minimum

I have been some 30 years in sales, the last 10 as freelancer and hours / week never counted. Had too many times when I was doing 80+ hours in a week thinking it would really matter ... well, guess what --> it doesn't...maybe on the monetary side, but certainly not on the personal one. I can't count the events, birthdays, weddings, funerals etc that I missed in the past 30 years just because I was in some corner of the world trying to sign the next project.

I changed recently my main work and that gives me much more freedom to live my day as I feel is right.

2. Cut the gaming budget by a factor 10

It will never be more than $500 per month from now on. My marathon, although it was fun, opened my eyes to things that for some reason I did not see or maybe didn't want to see in all my years of online gaming. I literally threw in total some $19K at slots in December and had in nearly 5 weeks only 2 wins that are worth mentioning. Just think of that number, $19,000 --> many people in this world would be happy to earn that in one year including those in the country I am currently living in. The losses were of course much lower, but that is not the main factor in this.

The fact that you can wager 100,000's with those $19K and barely get some excitement is the very disappointing part. And to be honest, this wasn't just some bad or unlucky month, it hasn't been much different for the last 1.5 years. The last time I had some sort of winning streak was in August 2015, ever since it has been rather a deposit-spin-lose affair with only the length of the session being a variable factor.

3. Move to Johor Bahru, Malaysia

As some might know I have a 7-year old son who lives with his mother in Singapore. Have not been allowed to see, nor speak to him since June 2015 and I miss him dearly. Moving to JB will get me to within 20-30 minutes of his home and school, meaning I will be able to spend much more time with him once I got past the legal "spiel" with his mother.

Living in JB will cost me probably 2-3 times of that here in BKK, which is mainly the apartment rental, but I don't care. Missing his growing-up years is not something I want to regret once he is an adult and starts his own life.

My current rental contract in BKK ends on 15th March 2017 and that is the date I will move. Next week I'm off to Penang, MY to renew my Thai visa and from there I will fly to JB on a reconnaissance mission to find the right serviced apartment / condominium which has to be close to the Singapore border checkpoint.

4. Go on a holiday every month

Ever since moving to Asia I used to go every month to some island, country, city or region for a few days, just to get out of the day-to-day routine but stopped it some 2.5 years ago. Don't ask me why, I don't really know. But I went to some magical places over the years. Ever heard of Palau, Bintan, Batam, Tioman, Pangkor, Koh Lipe, Koh Chang, Koh Tao, Koh Kood, Korat, Saigon, Phnom Penh, Miri, Sandakan to name just a few?

Indonesia has some 18,000 islands, i have been to 6 so far, the Philippines some 7,000, only been to 2 there....so much to see and explore and I have to do it while I am fit and curious enough.

This is my plan, lovely CM'ers. Any plans you have for this year???
:D

Mine is to eat healthier. Since December I have eaten very poorly because of the holiday season and seems to be continuing lol. I love how I feel when I work out and excercise so Im going to get back into it shortly.

Im going to cut out all casinos that dont appreciate my business. Im tired of the industry treating us like village peasants and taking us for granted.

I want to gamble less and enjoy more things in life this year which ive already started doing by not depositing much so far. Plus last night we started season 6 of game of thrones and watched 3 episodes in a row.

Less internet, more life things.

Give up smoking.
Gamble online less (not deposited this year yet) yeah I know its only the 4th Jan lol.
Not take bonuses which tie you in unless its a too good to resist offer for the playtime.
Eat more curry.
Drink more beer.
Eat more trifle and jelly babies.

Take more pictures of Lighthouses

Nice post Harry !

Pretty simple for me this year , as with you im culling the deposits each month to around the same figure as you )

Two holidays this year ( normally one per year )

Visit the guys n gals at waxys this year

Spend more time playing football with my boy & more nurse games with my daughter.

One last thing knuckle down @ work & get my company fully flowing with advertising & other things ) get out onsite more back to the old which i do miss )

Good luck for this year to all )

My main plan for 2017 is to get out of it alive! The older one gets the more important that is:D Also drastically reduce deposits as I agree with Harry the fun is going out of it.

I haven't had a great hit in over 2 years which says a lot since I used to get one or two a year in the previous 5 years.

I am just gonna put it out there for the universe to hear but I do plan tow win the lottery this year:p

I don't have kids but I do have a dog and plan to have a lot of fun with him this year. Also some major family milestones this year my parents 50th wedding anniversary for one so I plan on enjoying the celebration with them.

Wish I could travel more but it's very hard with a dog who has separation anxiety and Ireland is not really a dog friendly country where traveling with pets is concerned.

Most importantly this year I am determined to find my happy whatever that is. Seems so simple but I think it may be the hardest task but well worth the effort.:)

Nice post Harry.Good luck with your plans.
I am slowly getting closer to being fit enough to get back to work after 2 rotten years. Oct 2015 I had a fundoplication op.The op itself was a success but the surgeon must have cut me further down as I was left with terrible digestive issues. Food ferments instead of passing through my system. I have refused to have the same surgeon correct the problem as he refused to admit that he damaged that area and now he is covering it up by refusing to share test results with my new surgeon or me. ( Lawyers involved now) It has resulted in a long delay in having corrective surgery.
During the same period a heart defect that I was unaware of raised its head. Called Wolff Parkinson White,I had it since birth and during a very sporty life I could have possibly of dropped down dead. Since it showed itself I had to have my heart rebooted many times and after two ops my heart is fixed to the extent that its stronger than most peoples now :p
So,this year I plan to have that corrective op and then get back to work instead of mooching about trying to find things to do

Few things I plan to make good efforts to do, 90% confident I will succeed in most where external factors do not contribute.

* Reduced deposits - No set percentage in mind but one rule is budget will no longer increase following a decent withdrawal or run of small withdrawals as it used to.

* Admit to self that my S/E is now pretty much flat on its arse and seek alternative income, going back to working for someone else / "normal 9-5" role pretty much the way forward unless another offer comes along

* Stop stressing over things I can control and also over things I have 100% NO control over, what happens, happens!

* Help my mom out more, Dad recently diagnosed with dementia and since she has little freedom, basically be there for them if and when needed.

* Add to this list something really pisses me off :p

Wow Colin...that is truly shocking.... have to admit that I had to google those things as I never heard of them before. I wish you the best of luck that all goes well and you get your life back!

wishing you the best....hope all goes well...

Cheers lads, but to be honest since the heart thing was fixed dealing with this has mostly been manageable and the op I require appears to be fairly simple. And I can still drink, occasionally

Well you look a lot better, with that hat on and everything. There's even some colour in your arms and nose! :eek2:

my main resolution is to escape the shithole i live in, job opportunities became non-existent, the streets are dangerous by the day because of lack of jobs, my main domain pizza making(unadulterated italian recipe, shape and taste) is totally dying here and is paid for a 15 hr day shift what in the west is paid for an hour at 8h shift!!! i aim for Benelux or Scandinavia, wherever i will find online and hoping for the best. need to let the winter pass first.
then i need to give up to energy drinks, after years of drinking from pleasure of the taste as the effect is null, lately i felt sick from them. has become like cigs, can't have a day without at least one. the company should make a water product with the same taste ill drink tons of water.
then to make my second tattoo, quality costs a lot, on lower leg costed me 600eur but is beautiful. to make this and more i need a well paid job.
and gambling aside, resolutions proved to be useless, but as long i will have power of will to say stop when i sense ruin coming it will be fine with just consuming my nerves. online was a total catastrophe, so like in 2016 i will try to concentrate on landbased more now that Merkur VLT were imported in many cafe bars in the city.

Well I posted here and there on what I want to do but here goes..... The bottom line is just a happier more regular life.

- Desperately want to find a new job as it is extremely stressful and horrible where I work now. It's getting hard to even just go in and I dread going in.

-Saying that I want to find my own business is my 1st choice than a job, Most likely just a side business though. Saw a business today but looking at it again it may be a franchise so less likely for me, May contact them to get more info.

-Find my own place either buy or rent. Might have to wait another year for this. I have to see what the landlord plans are this year mind you.

-Find a girlfriend, Currently just started talking to a girl, So that's a good start to 2017 I say.

- Like others I do need to cut down on deposits if I want to get my own place or a new car etc etc. I did have a good session this week finally but before that I am like other posters where it was just losing and losing and the fun is gone.

- Like Osulle I am praying to win the lottery or a nice jackpot. Yes I am being honest and have been praying, God has not answered my prayers yet. :(

Then put it back on over the Meistermeet! You need to gamble more, no money means no food, no alcohol and no petrol for the motorbike. You'll then be walking or cycling places and living on fresh air. I promise you'll then lose weight. :D

I had the shittiest year ever in 2016 as I was a full-time carer for my mum who has dementia.I say 'was' because in October I realised that I couldn't manage anymore. She had to go into a care home, the fees of which would make your eyes water but at least I know she is being properly cared for. After all that,i don't think there is much this year that could be worse.

That's a very hard role, and the decision to switch to a care home is a very difficult one as it's against their own wishes most times. A friend of mine (now 65) has been doing this for a number of years, and it's really taking a toll on her health.

Harry, I truly hope you get to participate in your son's life as you want to. Reducing your gambling levels will easily cover increased costs living in Malaysia.

I've been sick for weeks, and so at this point my only goal is to get dressed and leave my house sometime this year, which I haven't did yet in 2017, although I got ambitious enough to bathe and put on clean nightclothes:D

Going to try harder to increase my level of physical activity. I so enjoyed the pool at the condo in Bangkok, I'm seriously considering whether I can afford to move somewhere with an indoor pool.

I feel you on this, my father passed a way a while ago and had Dementia it was a very hard choice to have him put into a nursing home, but there was no choice near the end, it is extremely difficult, drainning mentally
and physically caring for someone with dementia. You, yourself need rest and your own time as well at times and it's not possible when caring for someone with an illness.

She will be properly cared for hopefully and you can be at some ease now knowing this as well :) Focus on the good and good times!

So many different stories and idea's and to do's.

Plans for 2017.... well honestly the plan we had, my partner and I was to try and buy a house the reality we know is not going to happen, this is now not in the to do try to plan type thing really much anymore.

We are a family of 6, oldest she is 20 later this yr, so the younger 3, 2 in high school, 1 primary... try to save where we can, if we can as this year finances are going to be quite tight for us now.

Did not make any kind of resolution, kind of stopped doing that years ago lol! - For us I think it's spending more "quality" time together as a family, more simple things done together around the home or from home type thing.

The cost of living is just increasing too much especially with 3 younger dependents and 2 in high school - normal day to day costs are just getting too high and we need to micro manage money more this year alot more so that makes it more like a downer on that. And that's life anyway, budget, adjust rinse and repeat !

I think without writing a novel, it's what should be regardless, focus on the good, be grateful for what one has, company they have, children, family, friends, take care of them and what matter's and live
enjoying each day best way one can!

WOW! So many great plans for 2017!

Some plans are obviously more attainable then others, but if you all put your mind, body and soul into it you will achieve your goals.

The only 1 goal I set this year was to survive my only child turning 16 next month. She has already picked out a car, wants us to build an apartment on the side of the house for her to move into, and would like us to give her 1,500 USD allowance every month ontop of us paying for all her living expenses. She would also like a 70 inch TV so she can play her games on STEAM and it would be like she right in the game. She informed us that she plans on living at home when she goes to college because she doesn't want to eat cafeteria food everyday.

Christmas was only 2 weeks ago and there is nothing else this kid could possibly need or want in my opinion but she has delivered a 2 page list for her birthday with the last line reading....MORE TO COME. The first thing out of my mouth was GET A DAMN JOB! But deep down inside, I see my hubby trying to think of way to convince me that she deserves the Range Rover she is asking for....

:lolup: Your daughter is suffering from millennialism (made up word here). They think they deserve the world just by virtue of being born and not having to work for it like the rest of us. When she is all grown up she will appreciate it and realize her parents are saints:)

Gave up smoking today......

I just smoked my last cigaret. I have been smoking for about 40 years, and loved every one of them:D, but sadly I have to give it up, because I had a heart attack while I was in Germany for Xmas. Was in hospital 23. dec.( hospital was a sick place to stay in ) and let my self out again 24. dec. I had a stent put in to my arteria and now have to take a lot of pills:(
but if I want to live a litlle longer I must give it up for my daugther and husband.

I sure hope I can do it, its going to be a hard job, bit I will try my best:lolup:

Happy New Year to all of you::)

You survived her being 15, 16 is a cakewalk comparatively.

I'd suggest she start her job hunt at Home Depot to get a discount on the home renovation needs.

Nice read.
My resolution. When my balance hits 100, i withdraw 50. Used to wait till it reached 200 usually but with smaller budgets come smaller goals.

Nothing comparable to other plans in this thread, just:

Pay off another credit card (ideally in January as small balance) and by the end of the year, pay off at least 75%, if not all, of my last credit card. Hopefully be debt free by end of the year.

Don't plan on playing less slots, just more sensibly and whack in a withdrawal as soon as possible to at least reclaim deposit and small profit where possible, playing with left over profit. If I don't manage that, then no stress as hopefully I will be playing within budgets!!! I'm not deluded as I know I will lose more than I get to bank!

Next plan is to score at least one goal in my football team. I am the oldest player at 42, but have embarrassed some of the younger players at some point!!! Mid life crisis and all that, but nice to see our team is top of the division.

And finally, I have to get DoA to at least give me a wild line or 5 scatters!! Ok, now I am getting deluded .....
