Just wondering if any of my fellow members have had to have dental clearance before surgery.
I am going in for yet another operation on my back in January and this time i had to have dental clearance.
Anyway to cut a long story short i had to go to the Dentist today and low and behold i need this and this and that done and the cost will be 460 euro.
I asked if i needed it all done before i could have clearance and was told YES.
So my question is,am i getting ripped off for they have seen me coming or is it a must i have it.
I am one tooth short today after my visit and have to go again next wednesday for 2 fillings and then 1 more,1 more extraction.
Funny thing i didnt think my teeth were that bad but there you go.
At least i have insurance for my back surgery as that is going to cost over 10k.

Hi,

I have had back surgery, several years ago. I never had such a requirement. But, I am in the USA. Maybe it is different.

I did/do have some dental issues, but they never came up for something like that.

Good luck with it!

Hi thebigs

I think they plan to implant some steel parts in your back. If so, then it is good that your dental status is ok because of infections. A lot of implant infections are caused from bad teeth.

Bacteriums love implants and they can cause infections. And bad teeth are always a good way for bacteriums to enter your blood.

Trust me, I was a theater nurse (a male one) for nearly 18 years:)

what gagamel said

how ever I defiantly would bargain with the dentist or get other estamates , I just got four thousand$$ dollars off a job witch was a four tooth bridge , and two crowns they originally priced all the work out for 9,000.00$$ so they can be talked to about price

I thought the U.K was bad for health and safety, Its just another way to cough up money I would of thought?

I have nether heard of people needing there teeth sorted before an op, But as I said I am in U.K

But saying that I have had a few bad teeth aches in my time and the pain is intense, Just the other day I pulled a muscle in my neck and pain has just levelled of, I still prefer that than a bad tooth :D

Forgot to add, Hope every thing goes smooth and quick recovery
