Editor's Note: Here is a thread that should never be forgotten. After the tsunami that killed so many people, and wracked so much havoc, Ted and I came up with an idea to action off ad space on our sites - the winner would receive that space for a year, and 100% of the proceeds to be donated. We raised $111,000 which went to Unicef thanks to Partnerlogic and a gaming community that showed a lot of heart. This was truly a high-point for everyone.

Ted Loh and I have been busy for the past several days trying to get this together. What we are doing is auctioning off a prime banner space on our websites; the highest bidder owns this space for 12 months and 100% of the proceeds go to UNICEF.

I had set this up at eBay the other night through Mission Fish, but within minutes it was shut down and I was banned without explanation. I felt like a bonus abuser at Crystal Palace :D

Still no reason or response from them. I figured that since it was "casino" related, I was marked as an evil eBay dweeb.

So I said the hell with it and set it up here at Casinomeister.

I hope that all forum members will motivate your favorite casinos to participate. I also hope that if you are not bidding on the ad space, that you make a donation to UNICEF anyway.

In my mind, this is a chance for the online gambling industry to show how much they care - and how human they are.

Bryan and I just put up the space - and he's done a good job setting this up despite the hiccups at eBay, who will soon have to answer for what I think was a really poor decision on their behalf.

Like Bryan said, I urge you to contact your favorite casino groups and let them know that this is a chance for them to assist in the effort to provide relief for tsunami victims, and get some long-term benefit back as well.

Good luck to all bidders - and thanks to all the readers for their support.

Aside from gaming, I do one hell of a lot of business with eBay. This morning I've sent an email to anyone and everyone that I conduct eBay business with to advise them of this BS stance that eBay has taken. Congratulations on your combined efforts!!!

This auction is about raising funds for tsunami relief - whoever wins the bid and puts up the money makes no difference to me. It is not an issue of picking and choosing who we will and won't allow to bid.

What he said. Families have been destroyed, villages wiped out. According to CNN "The United Nation's Children Fund (UNICEF) first estimated children made up one-third of the death toll. But Charles J. Lyons, president of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, said that percentage, if anything, might be too low."

I think Ted and I can put our differences aside for 12 months if the highest bidder is someone we don't see eye-to-eye with. This is about helping restoring faith, hope, and basic needs to people that are really hurting right now.

I think it is not simply the gambling industry showing compassion, but the great class and integrity with which CasinoMeister.com is run. Bravo

sirius, i am glad you said it first. Cause i was thinking the same thing, didnt want to seem like a azz.

Why not take all your profits and send it in, instead of giving a rogue casino opouinty to place on two well know watch dog sites.

If a new bee comes and see windows casino on top or crystal palace on top, they think its ok to depoist money.

So all the webmaster should get together and give a good portion of there profits to tsunami.

You webmasters are more than welcome to donate to various relief funds. But since you seem to miss the point - relief is more important at this point than anything else - there's no point in continuing the conversation.

Bethug:

You need to pay attention what's going on. Re-reading my postings in this thread will probably help. Not only re-read them but try to understand what is being said. Okay?

By the way, Sirius had a question; not a statement. There's a big difference between the two.

Perhaps Bethug will tell us what he is doing in this line - other than carping criticism of other people's initiatives?

Crystal Palace have the current high bid - $25,000...

Great!

Let them deposit, then lock them out the next week like they do with anyone who wins in their casino. (just a joke!)

Seriously, lets hope this goes a lot higher. (Come on down Golden Palace! This is not about a piece of toast, just think of the kudos you can get, both from informed parties in this industry but also from potential customers out there and especially think about the lives you will save.
You know you can do it.
If you do you will get my business as well as the majority of people on this forum just for starters. You will also sleep a lot easier in the future)

I have made my humble yearly contribution to Save The Children - Canada. Only this time I doubled it. I feel for all that are in distress, but I must admit that I especially feel for the children.

If anyone that reads this donates a few of their own dollars, I feel that I will have done something helpful.

I get their regular newsletters and one of the most worthy organizations presently giving relief to the tsunami victims, with first in mind the innocent children. But they depend on donations. That's where we come in.

They can be found at: www.savethechildren.org

Regards,

Thatch

C'mon people, stop the BS with the "What-Ifs". At this point, if the Devil himself plunks down the highest bid - and pays up - for the good of the needy, I will happily sell my soul.

If you guys don't like it - bid higher!

What he said. I understand these are legitimate concerns for some, but Ted and I have discussed this in depth and are prepared to take a bite in the ass. We don't care. And I'll emphasize - if you don't like the highest bidder, then out bid them. If you don't like whatever casino wins the bid, then don't click their banners. These are inane issues when it comes to the severity of this situation.

I am very happy and proud of Ted and Bryan doing this... The most important thing is they are DOING IT TO HELP!!!

Hope everyone will consider donating some of their gambling money. We are very lucky to be here and arguing about things like this. Look at this news:

there are more than 145,000 people get killed. Who suffer most? CHILDREN!!! Especially from poor familiy. Sometimes, I felt this is not fair and wish I have the poweer to change it. Then I realize I do have the power to do something.

...edging out Crystal Palace, who put in a SECOND bid for $30,000.

Crime, it seems, pays. He must be loaded.

Quite a tricky little balancing act here, which evidently B & T have given some thought to. Upside: lot of money to a good cause. Downside: potentially a whole lot more money to, and "legitimisation" of, a rogue operator. Cloudy Boy is clearly up for the challenge; hopefully Red Ed is, too.

When they get to $250k I will be suitably impressed.

The spots are worth 300 a week or $500 with the coverage and probably then some. Thats $50k

As a donation, $250k is in order.

Keep talkin' :D

BTW it stands at $33,000 on the first day of bidding - thanks Winwardcasino!

God bless you people for your unselfish efforts. Unfortunately, I have read some horrible accounts about UNICEF. I don't want to bring up politics, but not a big fan of the United Nations. I think Poker Stars is raising money for the Red Cross. I've also heard of some group called Doctors Without Borders. A lot of people need a lot of help. It's a credit to so many caring people who are going all out to help these people in Asia. All I'm saying is that UNICEF may not be all that you think it is. In fact, you might be shocked. :(

But YOU ARE bringing up politics. If you want to discuss UN or UNICEF, start a new thread in Wild Cards where it belongs. Let Casinomeister and Got2Bet donate the money to UNICEF.

BTW, I Want so see the big monsters of the industry bidding for this, I want to see CON, FortuneLounge, BelleRock gaming and all the others.

I'm just saying that it is wonderful, caring, and unselfish of them to want to help people. But in case they haven't heard of some of the horror stories about UNICEF, I just thought I should mention it. The information is available to anyone who wants to research it.

I've said enough.

God bless the Casinomeister.

Thanks Paul1 for the heads up, and for the kudos.

By the way, until further notice only recognized online casinos and their representatives will be able to bid. This is to avoid abuse from anonymous bidders, or by others who may have malicious intent trying to sabotage the auction.

Thanks!

In my opinion, no joint bidding. If they can't raise the funds themselves for the bid, they definitely shouldn't be participating. The last thing we need is for the winners to go bankrupt because of the amount they paid for advertising space :D

More good works from the industry...

WHO SAID THIS INDUSTRY HAD NO HEART?

Vegas Partners Lounge group joins fund raising for tsunami survivors

The Vegas Partner Lounge online casino group has joined the growing list of Internet betting operations trying to help the victims of the SE Asian tsunami disaster.

The group is donating 25 percent of online casino profits on two of their most popular games to help the stricken areas.

For one week all seven Vegas Partner Lounge online casinos (Crazy Vegas, Sun Vegas, Cinema, 777 Dragon, Maple, Casino US and Arthurian Casinos) will donate 25 percent of online casino profits on two of their games: Double Magic and Hi Five, to UNICEF, earmarked specifically for the disaster region.

UNICEF has already targeted the worst hit areas and distributed planeloads of supplies to affected families. The organisation is reportedly aiming to raise $81 million to cover the cost of basic care.

Good going VPL! :D

And Virtual casino has stated that if they win our bid - 20% of all profits generated through the autioned off banner space will go towards charity. That's pretty generous as well.

But Crystal Palace is in the lead at $39.5K :D

Cloud's obviously mad keen, that's about six bids he's put in. Even now he's getting good publicity just by bidding constantly.

If he get's it, that'll be so effed up and ironic. And I bet he gets it. That money he's bidding is just a portion of the money he's stolen from his players. He must be laughing his head off right now. WTG, Wazza.

Nowadays also charity can be a profitable way of advertising, but on the other hand when you're drowning you cannot have the luxury to chose the person that will offer an helping hand...

Wow, what you're all doing is fabulous!!!

Do you put your affiliate link then in the banner and generate donations from that money too?? ( not sure how that would work )

You're doing a great thing here, both of you ( and casinos too! )
Makes everyone feel good!

Thank you for taking care of the world.

I repeat yet again - if you don't happen to favor the current high bidder, either bid higher yourself or convince your favorite casino to place a higher bid.

I am not interested in listening to this effed-up $#!T when you are not involved in putting your money where your mouth is. I am tired of trying to do something to help and getting told what the hell I should be doing.

Cynics please BUTT THE HELL OUT OF THIS THREAD.

Slotchik - the winner of the bid will determine how the links work - if they want to run it through an affiliate link and donate those proceeds to charity as well, that will be their choice. But personally, I think that's a great idea - and Virtual has already proposed to do so if they win.

I won't speak for Casinomeister... LOL... but I'm just human. I have strengths and weaknesses, good and bad, I'm blessed with a family, all healthy and safe, a life which is not as difficult as it once was, lots of friends and family - but no pets LOL.

The one thing I am not blessed with is patience :) I can be very critical of people, yet sometimes not have the ability to take criticism from others. I have a sharp tongue sometimes, yet I cannot accept sharp words which I think have no place in whatever it is I am discussing.

I am trying to do the best I can - yet I know I can never please everyone. So those of you who disagree with me, accept my apologies for not being good enough to meet your standards.

I am only human. But I do everything I can to the best of my ability.

The real angels are those who are out in the field recovering bodies, comforting survivors and those who have lost relatives, giving everything they have, no matter how little it is, even when they have lost relatives themselves. I could post many links to these angels, as well as to stories about the heartbreak of many, many people - but that is not what this is about.

This is about doing what I personally can to help - and in this regard I'm sure Casinomeister feels the same way.

yes, I know Spear.....I wish I could be out there helping them.....i'd probably end up crying the whole time!!

You have to know what wonderful human beings you both are. Because you're willing to accept any casino that will give the money and look beyond everything else, shows that you are genuinely the best of the best. I want to call CNN or someone so that they know about you two. Generosity like this doesn't come around often. You are sending money to another country...to people you don't even know......and it just amazes me...the outpouring of love. You have no idea what you're doing for these people and their families.
Well, maybe you do....but I'm just simply inspired by this ...... :p :p

Talk about a load of SHIT... boy tries to raise money for medical expenses...
EBay closed the original auction Wednesday, citing numerous rules violations. Spokesman Hani Durzy said auctioneers are not allowed to advertise that money for their items will go toward a cause. The family amended the ad and had a new version up and running the same day.

EBay didn't say anything about our attempt - they simply suspended Casinomeister's account. AND kept the fees to boot.

Since when is giving something for a good cause BAD? And what the hell is their Missionfish charitable setup all about?

What a bunch of jokers. I never really used eBay anyhow, but I am really starting to wish they would rot in hell.

I gave up a lucrative sideline buying/selling on ebay after their Customer Service let me down several times too often - it was just too much hassle working with them and too galling to be lining their pockets at the same time. They've not got a clue.
