Mohawk Raceway has a big night of racing this evening. The best horses, drivers and trainers will be on-hand to put on the show.

There is even a possible cinderella story for Wiggle It Jiggle It, a homebred horse, that people are whispering the word 'great'. He is undefeated in eight starts but hasn't faced the best competition until tonight.

Find yourself a good Racebook and put in a few bucks to bet and have several hours to watch some great racing.

Always enjoyed the sulky races. When I was young, the track was just a couple of blocks from my house, and my brother and I would hang off the fence to watch the races. Many of the horses were stabled there, or came for practice at that time. A few of the handlers would let kids help.

It moved to a bigger venue in the 70s, and was somewhere a fella would take a date when I was young. The clubhouse had great food at a very reasonable cost. Later, I would take my kid trackside at least once or twice a summer to watch the races.

Rideau Carleton is the closest track to me, I haven't been to the races in a long time.

We lost our OTB venue here to a major fire last winter.

Thanks for bringing back some fond memories.

I used to be in the business in a small way before work brought me South. There aren't any tracks within 400 miles of where I live now. I really miss it but do watch online when major races are being run.

Tonight should be exciting as the best of the best have all gathered.

Here's an old picture of the most exciting moment of my life, when the filly I owned 50% of won the state championship for her class.

She got away very poorly because the driver felt as though she was going to make a break. She was dead last from the first turn until the head of the stretch and as you can see won just by a nose on the far outside.

Ontario has a fairly close knit community of racers, trainers and owners.

I remember a few years back, a woman I travelled on casino buses with, her husband had been a driver, and so was her son. Around midnight, mom gets a call, another owner needed a trailer, his had broken. Could she pick his up in Kingston and bring it to Woodbine (Toronto). Shirley and I were seatmates, and she asked me if I could come for the trip and help keep her awake there and back. I could.

Kingston at around 1:45, pick up the trailer, on the 401 by 2:15. Reach Woodbine minutes after 5 am. Really heavy fog. The horses on the track already exercising would appear only for a few yards and disappear into the mist. Like phantoms, ghost riders on the storm is playing in my head right now.

I will have to plan a race day soon. Win or lose, I can't think I ever had a bad day at the track. I'm usually $3 to place and a boxed exacta. No fun if you don't bet, you don't have someone to cheer for.
