What hardware is needed for games (flash/downloads) to run smoothly?

I just bought an ultrabook:

4GB RAM/ 1,8 GHz / Intel HD graphics 4000

The games are often very laggy.

I have 30 days return if not satisfied agreement. I am going to use it.

What do I need?

Dedicated graphics/video card? More RAM? Faster CPU?

Is the new M-Core fanless gonna do the job?

I want your experiences:)

What games specifically? The integrated graphics shouldn't really be an issue. The HD4000 should be able to cope with basic graphics tasks. I think you problem is the processor. I believe the M core is an ultra low voltage dual core processor. Good for tablets and basic laptops but that's about it. Whilst they are good for battery life they aren't much good for anything much beyond basic tasks. I am not a fan of these ultra low voltage processors. The battery life is good but the performance can sometimes be rubbish.

Asus Zenbook

I think I will go for a Zenbook with a dual core i7 (at least 4gen) with at least 2GHz.

Anybody else that Can recommend me a laptop.

better of with a desktop you can build a decent machine for less than a laptop sometimes
most laptops these days are slow and built with power save cpus ram soldered onboard so un upgradeable and the barely last 2 years
post a currency and top end of you budget and ill do some research. you can even build a mini pc of space is a issue or htpc built to sit under you telly :)

Indeed. You need to ask yourself if you really need the laptops functionality. Are you likely to need to take it with you anywhere? Or is it just so as you can sit on the sofa? Another option could be a tablet and desktop combo. Obviously space is a factor but you get some surprisingly small desktops these days. The only laptops that allowed uogradeability were gaming laptops like Alienware. But the newer generations are all BGA soldered processors and soldered graphics now. The age of the upgradeable laptop is dead mostly in the pursuit of power saving, weight and thinness. So even at the top end, you are now stuck with what you get.

I have a decent laptop with a good 4GB graphics card, but "switch-able graphics" wont allow it to be used with either IE or firefox making the flash/non-download versions of all casinos poor. Reason 1001 why windows 8 sucks.

most problems is the browser and add ons for browser. mozilla firefox is best for flash, but the latest adobe update (16....305 ) is bad.

make a partition on your hard disk, with f.e. 40 gb of free disk space which you only use for games and internet

Most laptops have either poor graphics, or shared graphics. Obviously poor graphics (Intel HDxxx etc) results in lag and stuttering, but even if you got a great graphics card, the shared graphics software can be an issue as you cant choose to use it when playing via a browser.

I treated myself to a high end laptop that has a desktop class graphics card in it and the slots all run 100% smoothly and without fault.

It was £1000+ but worth every penny, its a joy to play now.

Seeing as this thread has been resurrected I'll throw in my two pence worth. In the office I am still using my Dell XPS Dual Core II PC, which I bought way back in 2008. Upgraded to Windows 7 Professional, increased memory to 8GB and added an additional Sata 1TB drive. It flies and I can't justify replacing it.

I use it for working on my sites, so it has an ftp client, chrome, firefox and photoshop cs3 installed. Plus I have two monitors attached to it. ( See attached pic - Working on the PC whilst a Youtube video playing on the Mac )

Laptop wise, I bought a Macbook Pro with Retina Display for £999 back in October. This has a SSD for storage and is super quick. Both my Macbook and my Dell XPS run the browser based casinos fine. With the Dell running the download clients also without a problem.

I also use my Macbook for editing the videos for my YouTube channel. Unlike many, I haven't also got it running windows. With the Retina display windows would look awful. Besides I have no need for it. As the Mac OS can run everything I need work wise.

The only limitation for the Macbook is the 128GB SSD Storage, but I have a 2TB WD Wireless Cloud Storage Drive at home, which sorts that issue out.

I don't think the M processors are very good to be honest, I tried 2 different machines and both were laggy, they have the battery life however the performance sadly lacks, I now use a Haswell based I5, 8gb ram and 500 gb SSD, onboard graphics but the HD 5500, smooth, good battery life and no lag without busting the bank.
