Boldly gone to a new world

I rarely cry over the passing of a 'star'. But.... I was a Trek fan from day one. With Nimoy's passing I feel as if my little world has changed for some reason.

From Star Trek I learned....

Never beam down in a red shirt.
McCoy was a doctor not a mechanic/engineer/magician, etc. dammit!
Scotty could always repair and/or coax more out of the engines, even though 'she canna do any more captain!'.
Harlan Ellison was a cool ass writer who always had the best titles for his stories, and 'bonk bonk, lovey dovey' is not a good thing.
David Gerrold (who I corresponded with briefly) was a cool kid that couldn't understand why everyone fell in love with Tribbles.
Uhura taught us that brains and looks can work in the same package.
Sulu could take us anywhere with flare and a voice that melted many hearts.
Kirk was always a 15 year old stuck in an adult body, but could get us out of a jam if/when he got his brain functioning.
And Spock... dear Spock... Logic and reasoning are to be valued, embraced... yet we can still have a heart.

You have been and always shall be.... my friend.

RIP old friend.
