Licensing Correction Videoslots Review correction

No NetEnt in Canada

I saw their high rating, and immediately tried them out with a deposit.

To my shock, they are the only casino on the planet that I know of that will not offer NetEnt games in Canada. I had to play from a very slim selection of games that they have paid for in Canada.

While there is no restriction for my country, there may as well be!

Hi bruinsdude,

All online casinos are prohibited from offering Netent games in Canada and if you still offer them to players in Canada there is a risk that you will lose your Netent games. We at Videoslots.com are doing everything we can to follow the rules and guidelines set up by the game providers we are working with to maintain a good relationship with them and to make sure our players are safe. As soon as the possibility comes up for us to acquire a license for Netent games in Canada we will apply for it.
E.g. If a player from Canada would win a progressive jackpot at a Netent game, the jackpot would be considered invalid and Netent will not pay the jackpot.

I have had, and continue to have no issues playing NetEnt games in Canada. You guys are the first to even suggest that it is not permitted in Canada. I have perused NetEnt's website, and googled NetEnt Canada...all I come up with are sources that say it IS permitted in Canada. Only one casino has pulled out of Canada due to Canadian ownership conflicts.

For example: The Canadian-based company Intertain decided to make an offer for the holding-company of VeraJohn, Dumarca Holding a while ago. This deal was signed a couple of days ago, and as a part of this agreement VeraJohn has to pull out of the Canadian market as Intertain do not want to provoke the government in their home-country.

This is sad for all the Canadians that have enjoyed VeraJohn’s great offer of Netent and other games. Still, quality Netent casinos like Guts and Thrills remains in the Canadian market.

So I am confused, do I trust you, the only person saying no NetEnt in Canada, or do I trust the multitude of sources that suggest NetEnt is ok in Canada?

Where can this information be found to verify? It is difficult to take at face value with the number of Netent offerings available to us Canadians.

Hi All,

Good evening. :)

Unfortunately this information can't be found to verify.

This is our agreement with Netent as Philip has already well noted.

NetEnt will be contacting the operators individually themselves to remind them of their responsibility to follow their contracts, which state that no traffic from Canada should be accepted.

Hopefully the operators will comply with the terms of their contracts once NetEnt have informed them again, as this situation is very unfair on us, when we're the ones who have complied with these regulations from the very start.

I've requested NetEnt to keep me posted as soon as they have alerted all other operators who are currently in breach of their contracts so that as soon as they are informed that they should stop accepting Canadian players in being able to play the NetEnt games, I will keep you posted and you may then confirm of this matter with the other respective operators in question.

Kind Regards,
Lucas

This is simply not good enough on Netent's part as this is critical information that the player MUST know because :-

If a player from Canada would win a progressive jackpot at a Netent game, the jackpot would be considered invalid and Netent will not pay the jackpot.

At present, players are being told, and finding numerous sources of information, that tells them that it's perfectly OK for them to play the games, and the games are readily available to players from Candian IP addresses. If a player wins a Netent progressive, and it's voided due to some secret term that is not being made public, it will be a PR disaster for not only the casino involved, but Netent itself.

If players are being kept in the dark by Netent, and casinos are freely flouting the rules set by Netent, with their policing so lax that it has taken a competing casino to take the initiative to police an agreement that Netent is supposed to police, then it appears that this restriction isn't really that important to Netent at the moment, but it could be a disaster waiting to happen for a hapless Canadian player who wins a progressive during this period of buck passing and lax policing.

Does Netent really want to be the software involved in a second Canadian scandal such as the "Sylvia P" incident that embroiled Playtech and William Hill?

If it's the case that all Canadian bets currently being placed on Netent games are legally void, then Netent need to pull the plug NOW, and ask questions later.

In the long term, get rid of all these illogical country restrictions, they make no sense that players can discern, leaving the customer wide open to getting shafted because an operator or the software company has not kept to the terms of an agreement that is not made public. This is defeating the whole point of the multi provider approach to provision. It is much simpler for the player to have a single provider casino, where it's either available in their country or not.

I only have a sense of disbelief reading this response, as well as the bitter sentiment towards other reputable casino's offering the platform to Canadian players, clearly something is amiss here.

Admittedly not as big a market (but perhaps equally confusing), players in the Alderney, Isle of Man, and Gibraltar are also unable to play NetEnt games at VideoSlots, (but are at other sites).

Was also previously discussed in this thread started in July.

I truly hope Videoslots.com comes up with something a bit more substantial than, "I can't find anything to substantiate our claims right now"

Those are some hard hitting allegations. There are a lot of casinos doing a lot of business in Canada with Net Ent games. A very detailed search has come up with zero to back up the claims of NetEnt games being disallowed in Canada, by anyone. Now, as a Canadian depositor, I don't feel safe depositing at the likes of Guts, Betat, CasinoLuck etc. I mean you are saying I could potentially have any big wins voided.

There are a couple of branded games that NetEnt has, themselves, restricted for Canada. If there were a blanket ban on NetEnt games in Canada, why the need for separate licensing restrictions on games such as South Park, Aliens, Creature from the black lagoon etc? It makes no sense to go out of your way, as NetEnt did, to restrict specific games to Canada when you allege all games are restricted in the first place.

Please keep us posted

There are a few, Casumo, V&J, and a couple more that I cant think of right now but not the majority, could be an individual casino in their licensing agreement, who knows.

Well at present Videoslots' rating is the highest of all casinos. Should it be demonstrated that many accredited sites have been wrongly offering Netent to Canada, at risk of players being done over if they win a Netent progressive then a large can of worms will be opened...

OK, Lucas are you aware of any other multiplatform sites like yours which incorporate Netent games which have also abided by the contract like yourselves? Obviously the Canadian players will soon be on here naming the Netents they can play at, so I won't need to ask that.

Is it possible your casino has a different contract to others?

Vera and John pulled out because of Canadian ownership issues. But even in the release about that, they say other NetEnt casinos remain in Canada.....

VeraJohn.com is one of the biggest Net Entertainment clients worldwide. The Malta-based online casino has aggressively expanded from its core Scandinavian market to the rest of the world after its launch in 2011.

The Canadian-based company Intertain decided to make an offer for the holding-company of VeraJohn, Dumarca Holding a while ago. This deal was signed a couple of days ago, and as a part of this agreement VeraJohn has to pull out of the Canadian market as Intertain do not want to provoke the government in their home-country.

Maybe Canadian members should contact the reps for these casinos to ask exactly what the position is.

As for Lucas, there seem to be some differences between how he explained this move back in July and now. In July, it was a specific agreement between Videoslots and Netent that had this term, and that the term would be added to the contracts with other operators, but there "is no deadline" for them to comply, which suggests that Netent are not going to do much to police compliance at present, only having the prospect of operators who still offer the games despite a restrictive clause in their contracts being frozen out of any prospective formalisation of Netent offering online games in Canada, such as would come about were Canada to adopt the approach of regulating the industry (similar to the UK, and some states in the US).

Nothing there seems to suggest that whilst Netent looks to police this new clause with only the threat of being left out of a future that might not even happen, they will void any network progressive that happens to be won by a Canadian player through an operator that should have prevented Canadians from playing, but decided not to.

This puts Canadian players in a difficult position. They can accept that these other casinos are legitimately offering Netent games for now, and assume the statement that progressive wins risk being considered void is an exaggeration, and Netent will do no such thing; but this still leaves the uncertainty that in fact Videoslots are the only operator who have got it right, and the rest are deliberately flouting the new rule because they feel that Netent don't have the will to enforce it just yet, and would not risk their name by taking it out on some hapless player by voiding a progressive win in order to bully the operators into compliance.

The only way to get to the bottom of this is to ask Netent directly, and an opportunity will soon arise in London.

I did get clarification from a highly regarded accredited Netent casino rep, the explanation was they are good to go for Canadian players, there a re a few games that are restricted due to licensing agreements, it sounds like each casino has their agreements with the provider which may differ from one another.

Hi Everyone,

On the 7th July 2014 Netent sent out an update regarding restricted countries. Due to this, we were forced to block several countries from playing Netent games including Canada.
As we have got many complaints regarding Canada being blocked at Videoslots.com but not at other casinos, we asked Netent regarding this and how we could be compliant to offer Netent games to players in Canada.

Netent's answer was the following:
"Canada is a black-listed market where Netent games must not be offered. NetEnt has a strict zero-tolerance policy towards this. Netent is currently contacting the operators individually to remind them of their responsibility to follow their contracts, which state that no traffic from Canada should be accepted. NetEnt reserves the rights to terminate the contract and claim damage should they breach it, as illegal activities might harm NetEnt’s strategy."

This is the information that we have received directly from Netent and this is what we are following. We cannot comment on anything outside of our own business and agreements.

Thanks for all your feedback!

They mean business!

If they really ban all Canadians from playing NetEnt then I'm taking a break from gambling at the right time. My play time was 50% NetEnt and 50% MGS.

What I don't understand is why some games were always banned for Canadians (South Park, Alien, CRTBL) when they should have banned the whole thing?

Also, why does NetEnt have "CAD" directly built-in the software?

Then I'd agree that it would be "unfair" for Videoslots.

Quite possibly however not being privy to certain licensing agreements we will never know, I wish VS were able to offer the platform to us, I didn't bring this topic up, all I did was try and verify the info with another operator, seems odd to me that other reputable establishments would put themselves at risk if this were a steadfast rule.
