Who Else Celebrates Thanksgiving Today?

Just a curious American wondering who celebrates Thanksgiving day today? If you do, how? Do you have all your family there? What is the standard menu you expect will be served?

Like my family gets together (whoever is in town) at my mom's house. She cooks the meal which is sometimes beef or turkey or seafood. Nothing like being fed by mom.

I like the spirit of this particular special day, but we aren't to big on it here in Europe, as far as i know...
We do have some similar church-related thanking and praying days, which are quite similar in origin, but aren't considered national holidays, nor popular among most families. The ones that do honour these days usually just go to church or do something modest at home, since the social circles that "celebrate" this day are mostly quite Orthodox

I would love adopt the day in Holland though, as i like the idea, and i also, since being online a lot, participate in it slightly ^^
The only thing i really notice are Casino bonuses! lol.

I think it's an America only thing isn't it?
Sounds and looks like our Christmas dinner - just a month too early!

Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving as well. We just have ours in October.

I know it's my year to work....
I do the cooking for the 14 of us every other year. Sometimes it's better to go to work lol it gives me a break from it.

We do turkey on Thanksgiving and Ham and another meat on Christmas. This year we have tons to be thankful for so we are deep frying a bird and roasting one, and of course all the trimmings. I'm stuffed already just thinking about it.LOL

Entire (dad and moms side) family gets together.

Food wise there will be the following for sure: A ham, a turkey (cooked however), another turkey fried (yes we're black), some style of chicken dish possibly roasted, homemade yeast rolls (courtesy of the best mother in the world), potato salad, dirty rice dressing, normal rice dressing, sweet potato casserole, baked beans, macaroni and cheese (probably normal, but possibly baked), green beans, salad, mash potatoes, cranberry sauce, and cornbread stuffing (think that's what it's called).

Desert typically will be chocolate pecan pie, regular pecan pie, cherry jubilee, cookies (various), **possibly a sweet potatoes pie**, and fruit salad.

^ Those are what come to mind, but I know I'm forgetting stuff. About to finish doing a few things around here, and then finish baking, and then head down to my parents house for Thanksgiving etc. Everyone here is invited by the way. Just sayin!

I do like the idea of Thanksgiving Day but it isn't something celebrated over here in Wales. We have St David's Day which is when we celebrate our patron saint but not sure the two can really be compared... particularly because St David's Day isn't until 1st March either!

Do you guys not feel it gets in the way of the pre-Christmas excitement or is it when your pre-Christmas excitement really kicks in?

I work for a South Carolina based company, and this year they decided they have excellent four day window to update our system.
Read "shut all computers down for half a week and let them use pen and paper in Ireland" Fair enough, this way it will affect the least amount of people.

This is the second day, and to be honest it really is refreshing, shame we have to upload all data manually next week, when the new system is up and running.

To answer the question, no, we don't celebrate but we participate in a way

We have the usual Turkey and Dressing type meal with Pumpkin Pie and Whipped Cream for dessert.

I am the Mom----and of course I have the dinner for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter -----.

I know its warm and fuzzy to go home to Mom's for the holidays, but I wonder----
Does anyone ever invite MOM to their house?
