Exploting a bug in a video poker machine

I'm glad that in the end he won his case and will be allowed to keep his money. The vegas casinos should be forced to pay for his lawyer fees too.

His partner didn't get to keep his money though, so not an ideal outcome.

What they had was an "emptier", and quite a classic too:thumbsup:

It's very similar to some of the UK "emptiers" for Fruit machines, but the key difference is that unlike the UK, the jackpots were many times higher.

Where they went wrong is GREED. They won SO much and SO quickly that the casino was bound to notice something wasn't right, and so they were put under surveillance. Triggering so many attendant hand pays was probably their biggest mistake of all. Had they kept the jackpots within the range for automatic payouts, it's unlikely attention would have been drawn to them so easily. Hitting the same casino day after day is another error, they will start to pick up something in their stats even if no one notices anything odd in their play. They could, of course, get away with triggering a small number of big jackpots as this would be no different to the average player who plays a lot.

It's also too many people hitting the UK fruitie emptiers, leaving the same game on "call attendant" and devoid of cash at numerous locations that gets the operators and suppliers looking into the possibility of a glitch. The less exploited an emptier, the longer it lasts.

This pair could have made far more had they paced themselves rather than tried to win so much so quickly. They should have gone from casino to casino, taking a little at each, but doing it a every casino there was in the US, and then moving on to the rest of the world.

Despite the strictest auditing standards of all, this one still slipped though. Online casinos are if anything MORE at risk of suffering the consequences of such a glitch, and there may be glitches that have lain undiscovered for years because of the complicated sequences needed to trigger them.

Any chance of getting IGTs Game King online:D

Really, which one didn't get to keep his money? Should've bought a better lawyer!

Yeah they weren't too smart. I'm shocked that the one partner who was paying the other one 50% of his winnings didn't leave to venture off on his own earlier.

Exploiting online game glitches for profit has been done at least one time that I'm aware; Actually, I think the user even filed a PAB here on Casinomeister. Unfortunately the casinos noticed what he was up to and he didn't get any money. He was trying to withdrawal millions from what I remember. It's shame that the player had to lie to Max too, because I believe that if he had used the exact same argument as the lawyer in the above mentioned case, his own case would of been stronger (i still doubt he would've been paid though lol).

I've noticed (or perceived to notice) occasional glitches / non-random stuff myself, albeit nothing that in anyway could be exploited for profit.

I have come across and benefited from a few 'emptiers' in land based arcades etc before I switched to the comfort of online gaming at home.

Never got greedy so got a decent run most of the time and never any gadgets or anything illegal so even better.

What spoilt it for me most of the time was word of mouth and friends who couldn't keep things quiet lol

I wouldn't even try to do what these guys did.
I'm very surprised they got off the hook. Maybe the judge felt sorry for them?
