Referred Players Identity

Hello Webbys!

I'm in the process of designing a site. I want to try and create something totally different to other affiliate sites. There is so much competition that I feel the only chance to compete is by having a website with a new concept.

Without going into too much detail, I would like to offer some services/features for free to anyone that signs up to a casino from my website. In order for me to do that, I would need a way of confirming they joined the casino from my own website and not elsewhere.

When someone signs up to a casino from your website; how much information is given to you about the player? I would not need a lot of information. In most cases, just knowing the email address of the person who signed up would probably be enough.

I have emailed some affiliate managers but today is Sunday and I'm not expecting a reply. If someone could tell me what information is available to you about the player who signs up to a casino, then I can either scrap my idea completely or move forward with it.

Thank you :)

As an affiliate you will get NO personal information about your players which would enable you to contact them in any way, from ANY Affiliate program.

Some give literally no information at all, most give just their country of residence, and a few give stuff like age & sex. But you will NEVER be given their e-mail, real name or physical address.

All you can do is ask players (via a message on your site) to contact you when they sign-up somewhere. Then it is their personal choice.

Thanks KK,

That's what I was afraid of. I guess its back to square one then.

It feels the options are really limited in terms of creating a new site with good original content. Everything that can be done has already been done and copied 100's of times.

I'm still determined to proceed with the site so will continue to research.

Thanks again for not having me waste a whole Sunday :)

There are ways for affiliates to know details about players, such as email address etc. Some affiliates have special deals or contests where the player has to sign up from that special affiliate. If players win or is entitled to cashback the affiliate knows that the player is one of "theirs" and also have the email address. If the player didn't sign up from that special affiliate, the affiliate receives this information from the casino.

I have even been told by an affiliate that I can close my account at a casino and instead sign up from that particular affiliate only to be tracked "correct". Of course I didn't.

The easiest way to begin this idea is with a forum where the player has to sign up to be able to take part of deals. :)

Hi maphesto,

Up till now I’ve had a negative attitude towards having any kind of forum on the site. casinomiester is the only gambling forum people need and for me to have my own would be like creating a search engine to try and compete with Google. I would end up with 6 member and 4 of those would be my own friends who took pity on me and wanted to show support.

I can see how a forum would be useful in the example you gave. Perhaps there are other ways to implement the same idea.

I'm training at the moment in Graphics Design & Web Design. This course finishes in around 4-5 months so I want to learn as much as a can about the gambling industry and then utilise the skills I’ve learnt into creating a professional website.

I want to create a site that people want to visit rather than one they stumble upon - this is were a forum is really beneficial. Deep down I still feel its the wrong route to go down.

I have so much to learn and every day I learn something new. Hopefully after 5 months I have a clear idea of exactly what it will take to make a site successful.

Thank you for your advice :)

Based on the responce I got from some affiliate managers, I feel I should probably explain my reasons for asking the original question in this thread.

My approach to becoming an affiliate was to try look for a concept that no other site was using. I felt a good idea would be to have a site that offered 5% cashback paid out of my own commision to anyone who signed up from my site. To me (someone with no real knowledge of the affiliate world) I thought this seemed like a good idea. The casino would get a new player, I would earn commission, and the player gets a little something back if they lose.

Of course I understand now that this is a terrible idea for many reasons. It could easily be exploited and abused.

I feel like by asking the casino about this idea, it was almost implied that I was trying to create a scam. I can see why they might think that but it was not my intention of course. I just thought I had a good idea.

Its difficult to find answers to specific questions. I have 100s of questions but I don't have any friends who are affiliates so finding answers to even the most basic questions means searching Google and it often returns a lot of junk that's not related at all to the question I need answered.

Where would be the best source of information to becoming a casino affiliate?

This site already uses this way with cashback and special improved deals better than others.....

You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

In particular it makes my blood boil to see this crappy text how can that be legal. Surely if a player is tagged through us or me. Then how can it be okay to close account and sign up through a different site?? >

if you are already registered at your chosen casino having used a link on another site, you might be allowed by the casino to cancel your registration and reregister through Gambling City. If not, please select another casino and register through Gambling City. Please email us if you need help in your selection. For example you might want to know of other casinos in the same group as your casino of choice.

Maybe this explains some players actually quite a lot amount of players who used to make deposits every months suddenly has vanished from actually several of my programs??

Yes Paaske, that's the site I thought of. I don't think all casinos would let the player "switch" tag like that, but it sure feels strange.

In my case, I received this after a raffle prize (I think it was) to put in a casino account :

They (ed note: the casino) suggested that you might want to cancel your present registration and reregister through our link

I know exactly which affiliate I signed up through from the beginning and since I used his info to choose the casino in question in the first place I of course don't want to "detag" me from him.

The casino in question is a respectable one.

When looking at those cashback deals you can see that Betat is listed, I hope that they don't allow players to close and reregister just to be tagged "correct".

Well obviously HERE is a great place to start. There are lots of members who are affiliates, and we're mostly a friendly bunch!
Or go to Affiliate Guard Dog - an affiliate specific site which really does look after the affiliate's best interests, and not just their own back pockets like some other affy sites do.

So.. Can anyone offer me advice as to what I need to learn to become a casino affiliate?

My experience thus far is that when I ask the casino questions, they treat me like a scam artist. When I join forums and ask questions, it results in an argument about other sites.

Really, I just want to learn. I feel I need help to learn but don't know the best way to go about it. Up till now the best advice i've gotten are from random people from this forum who have PM'ed me with their opinion. I appreciate their advice so much, you know who you are. ;)

I feel like I want to dedicate myself to this project but the casinos don't want to work with me. The more I learn about the whole affiliate industry, the more it feels like a dog-eat-dog world. Perhaps this is why good information is hard to come by.

I feel like I'm losing interest in the whole idea. I want to create a new concept to casino affiliation. To me it feels like everyone is doing the same thing. I want to create something different, something no one else is doing. For me to accomplish this I need guidance and advice, but when I present an idea I get treated like my intentions are to scam.

The main downside with this is all your player commissions are lumped together, i.e. if you referred 20 players which all lost £1k you would send them each £50 from your commission, but if you also refered one player that won £50k you wouldn't recieve any commission and have to pay the other players out of your own pocket.

Also some affiliate programs do display user information (income access displays username) so it would be possible to track how much each player lost, you can also create special links within income access so each time someone clicks a link you can mark it in a local database and attach it to your players.

Thank you :)

Yes, the more I thought about the 5% cashback I realised it could be a bad idea because someone could win a lot of money and wipe out all commision. I felt the best way to handle that would be to cap the cashback limit and only allow cashback after the first 3 months of registering.

I guess it's all irrelevant now though. I think it's a shame that there is not much trust between casinos and affiliates because if they worked together and shared information, then it allowes people to be more creative with their website rather than eveyone having to depend on SEO.

Way back in 2006 when I started my website I ran a scheme along similar lines to what you were thinking of. The only difference was I paid a flat fixed amount for each sign-up ($5 or $10).
It worked OK and a few players got paid by me for their sign-ups, but it took a fair amount of time & effort to administer, so I gave it up after about a year.
The page all about it is still actually on the server:
You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

Note that page is now WELL OUT-OF-DATE as it hasn't been touched since 2007! :eek2:

I think the main problem (at least in the UK, maybe EU) is the data protection act doesn't allow sharing of users data, though in some cases they may do but it makes the situation a lot more complicated.

I guess as someone who is new to the affiliate world, my thinking is 10 years out of date :D

I think you need to stick to content and not rely on user participation (like a payback scheme). Once you start to pay people, you open up a huge can of worms that can become very messy.

Focus on unique content and branding - find an audience that hasn't been tapped yet. Even a crossover audience - for instance metal head gamblers, slots for gay seniors, and then build up a lot of content that the search engines can rank highly and go from there.

Oh no, don't feed the gimp in the other thread, in a few days there will be both metalheadcasinomeister.com and gayseniorcasinomeister.com in that awful network.
