Turn right, then right. then right again
Well I've just got off the phone with Neteller after finding a whole heap of transactions to bwin casino and a virtual MC.....

...but the weird thing is that whoever it was DEPOSITED $6000 and then transferred about $4200 out to various places leaving me with $1800 which isn't mine!

So I havent lost anything, but Im very concerned about where they obtained my security code to access my account to make a PoLi transfer!!

My account is closed and Neteller are investigating so I will update when I hear more.

:eat: Interesting....

Could be that someone mistyped their account number and withdrew winnings to your account...but then, how would they have deposited them?? :what:

that is very odd - usually hackers are going after your money and not just a wallet to play with...? What would be the benefit? Yes definitely keep us posted.

I wish someone would hack into my MB account and drop a few grand. ;)

There was a similar topic today at one Finnish poker forum pokerisivut.com where one of their moderators had his Neteller hacked, 3250€ transferred to his Neteller account and only 2350€ transferred to Redbet. So he was left with 900€ as well.

Edit: Btw, that poker forum mod said in his post that his email was hacked as well and faked documents were sent to sites (from his hacked email) where the money was transferred to. Forgot to mention.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Still not a peep from Neteller but I'm not overly surprised.

What concerns me is how they got my security code AND password to access my account. The ONLY places I ever even TYPE my security code is in a casino cashier.....and I made a new account at a GG sponsor the other day so I hope there isn't a dodgy staff member there..:but I'm.clutching at straws here.

One theory I have is that the hackers have accessed someone else's bank account, loaded MY neteller account via Poli, and deposited st bwin in the hope of getting that money laundered and sent to another ewallet or a fake bank account of their own.

Another thing that concerns me is that normally if I attempt to login from a different geographical location, Neteller blocks my access and I have to call them....but nothing happened this time so the hacker could well be local.

My wife said "run down to the atm first and draw out the $1800 first".....which was tempting for a second but at the end of the day it isn't mine so I would be no better than the crooks. Let's hope karma looks after me down the track somewhere.

I'll keep you posted.

You're assuming this has been done by someone outside of Neteller.
I would think that this is highly unlikely and that's it's more probable to be an internal Neteller system screw-up.
Trouble is, if I'm right, they probably ain't gonna ever admit that!

I must admit that was my first thought, almost like I was seeing someone else's account.

Bizarre.

My first thought was Money Laundering.

Deposit to casino through someone else's Neteller account, Withdraw through casino with different user name etc... so the money is clean. Leave a little extra in the Neteller account in the hope that greed gets the better of the actual Neteller account holder and they don't report the extra funds to Neteller and keep the 'free' money!

The money could come from hacked bank accounts as Nifty said? They wouldn't care about leaving an odd $1000 in accounts if the money is stolen in the first place!

Cheers

Exactly. Why leave $1800 there? Doesn't make sense.

Well they picked the wrong person. I hate fraud with a Passion and refuse to profit by it.....i could have used the $$$ too.

If I hadn't read ergopro's post, my first thought was that it was Neteller's error. Like when a data line gets left out, and two accounts get crossed. I've had someone else's direct deposit paycheck deposited to my bank account, and a person here was charged with fraud when quite a large deposit was made to their account when they went and spent it.

I'm most interested in hearing how this progresses. I doubt that Neteller is ever going to reveal much either, other than issuing Nifty a new account.

Nifty, if I was you, I'd be taking my PC to an expert to make sure there's no keylogger lurking somewhere, and I'd inform all the casinos you play at that there's been some kind of security breach. I'd make no deposits or withdrawals by any means until this is resolved. If you use a wireless router, I'd change all the security settings on it.

It's a scary world out there.

If your email was hacked, then it's possible to get those Neteller login details to your inbox...it's not that difficult process after they get access to email account registered with Neteller.
As said in earlier posts, it seems like a "convenient" way for money laundering with stolen cc numbers.

Im concerned because the crook would have to know 3 things for access - email, security code and password.

I changed isp 3 weeks ago so my email is new.

I only ever type my security code into casino cashiers

My password is unique to Neteller and one other site (worldwinner.com). I guess WW could be involved but they would have my password but not my security code, which they would need access to my email to get.

It's so difficult to know how or where they got my info, as I haven't seen any evidence of my email being hacked. I do use a wireless router but my PC is directly connected to it via Ethernet.

I alerted bwin to the transaction - no reply.

The hacker also created a virtual mastercard and made three other purchases. It doesnt show what they are until they finalise.

I called neteller VIP a moment ago and the security team hasn't even looked at it yet ... "I should hear something by Friday" was the advice.

Im very tempted to dump Neteller after this fiasco. Im beginning to regret not taking the money and running.

Keylogger? I couldn't find one, and they surely would have used my credit card info too.as I use it daily online.

Hmm. Usually, hackers aim for the money on your account.
So this is really a weird case..

What I thought of is that, they might be using your accounts to transfer a certain amount of money that they have stolen from some one else's account. Maybe so that the original one that they have hacked and took the money couldn't directly trace them .. It's like your account became a medium for them to transfer an amount of money.. You have stated that the money was distributed to certain accounts right? Then leaving a $ .. Which is supposed to be transferred to another accounts as well but never make it.

Just what I thought. But anyway, good luck for the investigation. Hope you answers your questions soon enough.

I have to go with KK here. I think it's an internal screwup.

I once checked my bankaccount and found there was about €18.000 credited. when i checked again 10 minutes later (couldn't believe it) it was gone... :(
There were no traces left by the bank but i knew they must have made a biiiiiig mistake. Too bad they fixed it :p

Worst case scenario money-laundering...?
Using stolen cc/bank details to deposit with...to someone else's account.
Then spread the original amount in bits to various places so it's not so easily trackable as a lump sum would be.
For example to a poker site where they dump the cash to a few selected other poker accounts who then cashout the monies and get clean cash from ATM?
I like conspiracy theories...:D

My first thought too. Use a keylogger to get some random Neteller details, xfer stolen money in/out, via a casino that allows cashouts via a different method to deposits, no trail.

If the said casino allows withdrawals to go to a different place than deposits came from that would be my bet. If they don't, then it ain't money laundering LOL.

Make sure your wireless connection is secured with WPA2 encryption if available with a nice long password with alphanumeric/special characters. Change the router password from the default password as well.

Also you might want to try a full system scan with Microsoft Security Essentials (Old / Expired Link). It is quite a good tool for malware and rootkits and very user friendly. Failing that if you still feel iffy about using that PC, a wipe and reload of the OS is the only way to be sure your system is not compromised.

You may also want to change your PC login password and all of your online banking and email passwords as well if they did use a keylogger successfully.

Source: 10 years IT support (virus removal and reimaging) for a large insurance corporation with thousands of PC's.

Good luck !

Nifty, how did this turn out? I saw your reference to this incident in another post and now I can't find it to go back and see if you ever found out what happened.

Thanks Mousey :)

Well I have had NO contact from Neteller AT ALL apart from some VIP rep wanting to help me create a new security code over the phone. I said I wanted an email from Neteller VIP informing me I am going to be called and by whom before I go into any personal details (derr...my account just got hacked so why would I just spill my guts to someone 'claiming' to be from NT), so he promised to do that and organise to call me back.....and that was 2 weeks ago. I have no idea how my account was compromised or how I can prevent it in the future so as you can imagine I am totally pissed.

Now they have lost a VIP customer and MB is getting all my business, and I've found the fees lower so I'm actually saving money.

My advice to anyone thinking of going with NT is to think very carefully.

Moneybookers is better, yes. Neteller customerservice is horrible, they are located in india or somewhere in asia. Low cost and fees very high.
The exchange rate is bad +high fees when withdrawing. ($10 dollar!) for a banktransfer.

Oh dear!... this is dispicable behavior on their part. Well, no, I don't want some John Doe calling me up out of the blue, either. They want to be sure they're calling YOU, but you must be sure it is indeed NETeller phoning you! Anyone (the hacker?? - if that's what happened- who now has all your info!) can phone up and say I'm the NETeller flunky who needs to change all your new security log ins. Sheesh!

Is there no oversight of these ewallets? Anyone you can go to, file a complaint with?

All these security breaches (NT, MB, etc.) are serious business and the account holder deserves, at least!, something resembling customer service. Even if they won't tell you what happened, surely they can make proper arrangements to make things more secure in your account.
