He must be crazy to bet such ammount on the bloody american roullete.

This guy has sold everything he earns to place on a red or black bet at roulette. The live bet can be seen on Sky One (uk) at 9:00 UK time on Easter Sunday (this coming Sunday).

Cannot wait to see the outcome!!

Yeah i thought the same thing. It looks more like a marketing approach.

When I see people waste money like this, it really burns me up. I hope and pray he loses - and that the casino has the decency to donate his loss to some charitible organization.

To be followed by a "hard-hitting documentary" about strip clubs and lap dancing in Las Vegas. How appropriate for Easter Sunday.

I wonder if they know that if he wins the IRS will take 30%.

A good question is: Why he doesn't play that ammount in europe?
0 roulette is much better than the 00 killer. It's obvious that the whole thing is in some way 'fixed' and afterwards he'll probably earn more than 120,000.He even changed his name for 20,000 for a period of 4 months :what:

I got promos from Havana Club and Vegas Villa offering me 10 if I can predict whether he loses or wins. The same e-mails also said that these casinos will give him 10000 free money, it was not quite clear whether 10000 at each casino or 10000 at any casino in the Fortune Lounge group.

these scumbags. Altough Ive unsubscribed about 10x from every newsletter there is at FL casinos (+vegas villa, havana etc.) they keep bugging me with their useless spam mails they send every week.

But as soon as there is an interesting offer they dont send it to me!!

The guy has just done this crazy bet... After Hard Rock Casino cancelled last minute he had to move to another casino. Anyway... he placed it all on Red (the deal with the casino was that he had to place his bet before two spins of the ball or the bet was off). The outcome...

... RED! He's walked away with 270,000.

And to be honest I am really disappointed as I wanted to see his face when he lost.

Not to mention all the people that will now try to emulate his success and waste their kids college funds on such a stupid thing.

Anyway - he went, he did, he got lucky.

Ditto...I bet there will be alot of copy-cat gamblers out there whose sense of invincibility is boosted by his exploits. I'm sure there will be someone who will try and out do him.

He's not the first one and I think he's a copycat. About 8 years ago I read an article in one of UK magazine in flight from London to NY about a guy from UK which took all his fortune about 250,000 and put everything (which was his do-or-die bet) also on red in Las Vegas and won. He took the money and noone saw him playing again.

That's it! They found a system to win BIG. Bet your life savings on Red and you'll ALWAYS win. I'm going to sell it all and head to vegas. C ya suckers!!!! :p

Warning!!! The system is not bullet-proof. Unless it's played 1,000,000 times there is no guarantee. :icon_evil

Well I gotta give the guy some credit. I mean if you're going to bet on red or black and want to maximize your EV and profit, the mathematically correct play is to play once and then quit, isn't it? Or, isn't it? GM? Freebie? Sam?

The mathematically correct play is NOT to play.
If he has to bet, then he should choose european roulette in europe, not the killer double zero american roulette.
Unless he place the bet on 0-00-1-2-3, the house edge is all the same. The only difference is the variance. Placing bet on Red/Black has lower variance than betting on single number. Placing bet covering 18 numbers offer the same variance as betting on red/black. The "no risk" betting is to cover all numbers, that way you will always loose 2 of your bet out of 38 for a house edge of 5.28% (variance = STD = 0).
If there is a side bet. I am more than glad to bank he will loose. If there are more silly gambers trying to do this stunt again, I'll bet $50 to anyone's $49 that he will loose.
Not only the odds were against him, the money he bet means much more than the money he won. That's called marginal effect.
Imagine if I have 10k in the bank, $5 means nothing to me. To a homeless who has nothing, $5 means he can have 2 meals for the day.
No one with the right mind should do that.
ps: Because of the marginal effect, if I MUST play the best bet is the "no risk" bet.

I think you'll find the casino had agreed to call "no roll" on double zero..

No roll means tie if the ball was landed on 00?
Also one other thing i never got to know is: Would they gave him half the bet back if the ball was landed on 0?

If you're going to impose those rules, then why not just let him play single 0 roulette? Its basically the same thing at this point.

As I understood it, no euro casino would stand the bet... and let's face it "Double or Nothing live from Dublin" doesn't sound as impressive as "Double or Nothing... Live from Vegas" when you're advertising a TV show.

I know nothing about Vegas, but presume they don't have single-0 wheels there from the posts here..

I believe that some of the best casino's in Britain like Crockfords,Ritz club,Les ambassadeurs could stand this bet with no problem at all.It was a marketing trick for the bet to take place in Las Vegas. If he was merely after the money he would have bet in Europe.

It is hard to find the table limits on the web, it is certainly not in any obvious place on the casinos' websites, but I found a report which said that the table maximum for blackjack at the public tables at most high-end London casinos is 50000. The table maximum for a single number on roulette is typically 2000, there was no information about even money bets. An even money bet on roulette is a better deal for for the casino than BJ, bigger house edge and lower variance. If a casino normally accepts 50000 bets on BJ (with the possibility of doubles and splits), it should be possible to negotiate a one-off bet of 75000 (which is the actual amount he bet) on roulette, unless 50000 is a limit imposed by law. There is, however, the showbiz factor. A documentary about him spending a month in London would attract much smaller interest and would not provide an opportunity for the TV crew to take a holiday at the company's expense. :)

Has anyone got reliable information on table limits in Las Vegas? How much could I normally bet if I just walked in off the street?

Last time I was in Vegas when I walked into the Bellagio (how about them losing $3MM a day since they lost all their power including poorly designed back-up system) I was surprised to see $1000 minimum BJ tables right off the main walk away as soon as you enter. Like they think most people just walking by would reach into their pocket and just sit down and play a few hands. Actually 2 people were at the table - the young buxom blond playing and the old bald guy just looking giving her his chips to play with. Nice having a few bucks. I forget the max but you would probably get the normal min-max spread.

I didn't bother checking out the "High-roller Salon" area but it looked to be public.

So I played some full-pay 25 cents Deuces Wild VP for a while. :)

Edited to add And I think it was an 8-deck shoe for God's sake.
