It looks like the Germans have their own version of the Kentucky case, although the scale isn't quite the same yet.

A local politician (Juergen Buessow of NRW) succeeded in getting 2 gambling domains transferred to the government by court order.

The affected parties are bet3000.com (a local sportsbook operating out of Gibraltar) and tippen4you.com (more a sportsbetting/gambling portal than a gambling operation as such).

Both domains were transferred to Juergen Buessow personally, but while bet3000.com has been given back to the original owners (while the dispute is pending), tippen4you.com is still under governments registration (transferred around mid of July 2008 already!).
The site is currently available through tippen4you.at.

Both sites affected so far are rather small sites in the German gambling landscape and could be considered as test ballons launched by Buessow, who gained a kind of reputation for censoring the German internet for nazi and fishing sites by ordering ISPs to block the respective IP addresses.

I'm afraid there isn't much English info available on this issue on the net yet ..
