    Why slots?

I do not want to offend anyone, but I have always wondered why people play on slots? (pure slots, not poker or any other card game on a slot machine).
I can understand that one can be very lucky and win the big pot, but does playing on slots require any skills, except from understanding how the slot machine works?
I am a BJ adict and loves the challenges of that game. In most cases I have experienced that when I play at a fair casino, it's mostly up to me and my skills, and concentration if I am to end up with some nice winnings or not (skills do not count when you play on rogue casinos).
I suppose I may be wrong about slots, but I have never seen discussions about slots basic strategis, like we have on BJ.
Can anyone pleas enlighten me on this issue, and again my intention is not to insult any slots lovers!

With me, a lot of it is because I'm a bonus hunter and games like roulette and most variants of BJ are excluded from the WR... Couple that with the fact that I suxor at poker and about all that remains is slots and progressives.

I play on slots because they're fun, I expect to lose. Real poker is the only game I expect to win at. All online casino games have a house edge, including BJ, so eventually losing money is guaranteed - that being the case, why not play the prettiest/most exciting game?

Us slots players know that it is pure luck and good timing to be at the right place at the right time. You BJ players "think" you're controlling the outcome. That's the only difference between us.

Blackjack doesn't involve skill, you just have to play to basic strategy to minimise the house advantage. Coming out ahead requires luck.

Welcome to the forum - and an excellent point!

I don't wish to annoy Blackjack players (I know some may respond), but they keep banging on about playing 'perfect strategy' - and if you do, the house edge is only something like 0.5%. So if you play a fair game for say $10,000, all being equal you will lose $50. How exciting! <yawn>

The house edge on slots compared to BJ is HUGE - but so is the entertainment value. You hardly have to think at all, just hit autoplay & pray for 'that biggie'! You gotta love it!

Each to their own. I enjoy virtually all casino games, but I'll tell you what - if I play Blackjack til I'm 120 years old, I ain't never going to get a hand that pays out at 10,000 to 1

I've always kinda thought this too. For sure there is skill involved in playing good BJ vs bad BJ, but excluding counting (which obviously doesn't apply online anyway), it's not a game you can beat. Which is to say, it's a mathematical certainty that if you play long enough, you will lose. If you've already accepted this, that eventually losing is guaranteed, with any of these casino games, including BJ, there's no reason to play but entertainment. If you play BJ because you love it/enjoy it, fair enough by all mean. But to play it because you think you can make long-term profit, you can't - to think it's an intelligent financial decision, well, it isn't. Slots players all know they're doomed to eventually lose, being a highly skilled BJ player is going to make you lose slower, but you're still going to lose. You're essentially doing exactly the same thing as the slots player, on a different interface. I play slots because they're exciting, and the house edge is the price I pay for that entertainment.
