Here’s my brief review of Rival’s latest offering;

First off I was very disappointed to see someone at Rival has seriously cocked-up again, because this is what it says in the information:-

Scary Rich is a 5 reel, 20 payline, 10 coin Slot game. Scary Rich has one wild icon.

The Frankenstein (scatter) Icon is a Scatter Icon which triggers the Can't Lose Free Spin feature. If 3 of these icons appear on the Reels you will receive 10 free spins. The game will enter a Can't Lose mode for the duration of the spins. See below for more information on this feature.

These Free spins are Can't Lose free spins! For the duration of the free spins, the first reel will always be wild and additional 2-icon payouts will be added to the paytable. The end result of this is that all big wins will be easier to achieve, and you will win at least your original bet back for each spin. The payback of the free spins is thus at least 10X your bet but the possible payouts are limitless!

It looks like somebody has ‘cut & pasted’ that from the Future Fortunes info, only changed 5 words and unfortunately forgotten to take out the "Can't lose" bit!
The free-spins are NOT no lose – the first reel does not have a fixed wild symbol!
If it did then it might be a very good slot, but as it is I think they’ve slightly missed the mark again. :(

During the free spins, the wild only appears on reels 1, 2 & 3, but it becomes an expanding wild filling all three positions. And that’s not all, the wilds also have an increasing multiplier; 1 = x2, 2 = x3 & 3 = x4.
This should give the potential from some pretty mega payouts if you can hit all three!
This was close...

But if you don’t hit many wilds it’s a bit of a damp squib, because in making this probably the highest variance slot Rival have ever produced, the low end of the paytable is VERY low.
Bearing in mind this is a 20-line slot, if you play all lines then 7 of the three-of-a-kinds, and even 3 of the four-of-a-kinds only return a fraction of the cost of your spin! :eek2:

In my very brief trial, I played just 134 spins and hit the free-spin feature 3 times;
1. Paid back bet x 21.65
2. Paid back bet x 1.3 :eek:
3. Paid back bet x 25.0
But despite getting those features my overall return was only 54% :what:

In summary; Like the other recent Rival releases, superb graphics & sounds and a very good concept, but for me this one falls short of the others in playability because getting the feature should be an exciting event, not something you watch in fear of hitting diddly-squat. I think they’ve maybe got the variance a bit too high. A paytable tweak could probably sort this out, hopefully Rival will realise this and make some changes in the not too distant future....

One last thing – it was very nice to see they included a video of our new moderator MaxD in the opening credits…. :p

I played it last night and I agree with you. I hit the free spins 3 times. Once for $1.20, once for $24+ and the last time for $.80. Got no multipliers so it really kinda sucked. Plus the background and the music really grated on my nerves. Without any kind of a gimmick on the free spins there's not much difference in it any any other game.

Not real impressed. :eek:

Although I did well on the free spins, there were instances when the wild did NOT expand. I advised both the casino *Davinci & Superior*, as well as the rep here.

Hi Everyone,

KasinoKing, thank you for your review. I have alerted Rival to their 'mistake' in the Help file. That has now been fixed.

Missmayda, the Wild only expands if there is a winning line. If there is not a winning line then the wild will not expand.

If there are any other questions please feel free to PM me.

Kendra

i plyed through $20 at .40 or .60 and the only significant hit was 4 werewolves other then that absolutly nothing cuz i don't count the wins that don't even pay you back your wager ...how can you consider that scenario a win anyways ?

Kendra,

Luckily, I tried it out in FUN mode first. The return was less than 50%. The Wilds did not expand in the feature mode although there were winning lines. Could it be then that the slot should actually have the Wilds in the first reel during free spins. Otherwise, its very unlikely that this is a good slot to play.

While I won't spend much time or money on this slot, thought I would post this screenshot and let everyone know that it does pay (every once in a while). Prior to this I had hit the free spins twice and never won over $3.00.

OOOOhh I see, sorry about that, when I clicked on the customer service live chat, they seemed to think it was a glitch...now I know better :)

Thanks Kendra !

I, actually, really enjoyed this slot.. The theme is AMAZING compared to most of Microgaming slots, fully themed sounds and graphics are great. Seemed very well thought out.

I was also glad to see the variance not set a super low. I like the ability of winning large amounts on the free spins, but let's be honest here guys..... it's high variance.. we all know what that means for us - we MIGHT have a set of free spins that don't amount to shit a la ISIS.

And I love ISIS.

Both can be vvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyy stingy!

Anyway - good job Rival on this one. (now, if I can update my site on some of these new slots that would be a good idea :eek2: )
