One of the first prisoners we took on the second day of the ground offensive. We almost shot the guy (he wouldn't put his hands up coming out of a bunker), so I tackled him to the ground, searched him, and stood him up. The guy was pretty wiped out - dehydrated - no food for days. That's probably why he didn't put his hands up. He doesn't know how lucky he is to be alive.
I'm the guy with his back to the camera on the left patting down him down. My commander is standing next to me, holding his canteen - he offered the guy a drink - it was Koolaid. You should have seen the shock on the Iraqi's face when he drank it - expecting water. It was pretty funny.
The two guys kneeling and the other guy holding the prisoner were in my squad (I was their squad leader). SPC Billy Byrd (kneeling - facing camera), is ready to search the contents of all the crap this guy was carrying out of the bunker. My guys (7) took about 250 prisoners that day.
