is there anyway you either reduce the weighting of the thanks, or increasing the weighting off "adding reputation", so there is a bigger differential between the two.

the reason why i say this, is that its a lot easier to click a button to say thank rather than "add reputation" and fill small quote to explain why.

when someone adds reputation it says a lot more than a simple thanks, which is way to easily given.

Actually, there are a lot of "checks and balances" that are applied to the reputaion point system. Newbie members can give "thanks" and that's 5 points to the receiver. But if they are going to add to the receiver's reputation with a coment, they may only have the power of one or only a few points.

Also, there are some users - oldtimers, or those who have a lot of rep points. These people can give or take a worthy sum from a member, but if they thank someone - it's still only five points.

When member give (or take) points, I hope they consider what effect they are trying to make. For instance, if I see a really well thought out or helpful post, I'll bear this in mind and give rep points instead of thanking the member. This way they get 15 points instead of the usual 5. Check your User CP and you'll see that in action.

It's not a perfect system, but it's pretty fair.
