Nevada Legalizes Online Gaming

that's politics :D and that stupid [Alfred E Numen] look a like [George W Bush] dragged us through all this for nothing

Congrats to Nevada and they rightly took a swipe at NJ and Christie. Thanks again to Christie for looking out only for his friends and making stupid decisions. He was so busy pumping public money, including pension money, into the Revel Casino that he forgot to think about anything else. The only holdup in NJ is all the corrupt hands going into the till. Nevada will get it right. As usual NJ will get it wrong and billions in revenue will go missing. Now Christie just has to figure out a way to blame school teachers.

It will be interesting to see when the FBI update the claim on their website that "it’s illegal to gamble online in the United States".

You have to admire the drive of the Nevada Legislature imo...the governor wanted additional stuff included (right to negotiate interstate compacts without Congressional approval and a few other things) and despite a bit of a clash with Assemblyman Horne he got his way....all in the 30 day timespan he had set as a target.

Christie, on the other hand, faffed around with his conditional veto, and his New Jersey lawmakers are still trying to meet his demands and get a revised bill through.

Meanwhile the much-vaunted and horrendously expensive Revel has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and persuaded its creditors to accept a debt for equity deal....better than losing a slew of jobs I guess, but hardly a success story.

BTW...if you're ever looking for a rep in Oz....I'm the wizard LOL.

I'll keep that in mind for sure.

Slight derail but I'll be in Vegas March 5th. & 6th., going before the gaming commission on the 6th..

This hasn't been published yet but I received notification, wish me luck!

Man this process has been like a kite looking for wind for quite some time..

One of the interesting* things about the NV bill is the so-called "bad actor" clause which was left in after conjecture about it being removed. This essentially means any gambling operator who took US players after the UIGEA was passed cannot apply for a licence for 10 years although there is now a caveat that says if they showed willing to withdraw from the USA soon after the UIGEA, they could apply after 5.

* Interesting as in, it's convienently anti-competitive too ;)

If somehow they can then offer poker to foreign jurisdictions, then we'd really be talking.

This is nice, but it's of limited impact, IMO.

I think Christy is the best thing to happen to NJ considering what he has to deal with, Sounds like you r a teacher from NJ,

Presumably both NJ and NV allow this in their laws but there is no chance the feds will go along with that. Also, I think the title of the thread is a bit misleading:

1) It is only for online poker
2) NV legalized online poker in 2011
3) This law from last week allowed the governor to enter multi stats gaming pacts, it did not make any new games legal.

Not at all. I have worked in both the private and public sector. I was also fortunate enough to retire early and now do whatever I want. I am also a very proud liberal who is disgusted with both the democrats and republicans in NJ. Christie is no exception and only won because voter turnout was so low and many democrats refused to vote for Corzine.

Christie is a walking talking stereotype of an oversized, ignorant, and angry person from New Jersey. He is an embarrassment but his real downfall will eventually come from all his deals he has made. The latest being his deals with Ashbritt Inc. from Florida and the bankrupt Revel given public money. So much for free enterprise and not needing government help.

Christie's so called popularity is as real as the polls telling Romney he would win. If there was a real challenge by anyone of substance, whether democrat or republican, he would be toast. BTW, I once crossed party lines and voted for a republican governor named Thomas Kean. He was one of the best governors NJ ever had and even he can't stand Christie.

Give it time. I guarantee you Christie will completely screw up online gambling in NJ.

IMHO, this is the first sign of reason breaking the ice. With economy still far from recovery after the crisis - states should consider any source of additional income possible. With NV and NJ leading the way - others will want their piece of the pie as well and gradually move in the same direction. Hopefully, eventually number of states doing the same will get to the point there will no longer be a point to keep strict regulations on federal level as well. The same process appears to be going all across the world - in times like this, governments simply cannot ignore online gambling as source of revenue. So most likely, we will see more and more jurisdictions allowing and even licensing online gambling.

I agree with this, but unfortunately, I do not see any new states passing online gambling regs in 2013. Illinois is a long shot and all other states have already seen a bill die or not introduced at all. I feel that 2013 will see launches by DE and NV. NJ will probably be late 2013 or early 2014. People in the other 47 states will have to hope the launch is successful and that their states will not want to miss out.

IMO, we should forget about a federal law. I just do not see how there is enough support for that until it is far too late. Gambling is a state right anyway so a fed law might even make things worse as it may be subjected to lawsuits from the antis.

Mostly agree with you, however... One should not underestimate desperation when it comes to finding money. Many municipalities and states are on the verge of bankruptcy. That is where morals no longer come into play when looking for an additional source of income. Once they see extra revenue that comes to states that allowed gambling first - liberal legislators will get similar initiatives under way. Well, that would seem to be logical way things should unroll. However, that is definitely not always the way it is in politics!..
