The Announcement
On Thursday night, we opened for Bitcoin after all. At about Midnight GMT, when it hit the front page of Hacker News, Reddit and the Bitcoin forums, StrikeSapphire was getting up to 2,000 unique visits -- at one point, 30,000 hits an hour. I was convinced our site was going to crash under the strain, but it turned out we didn't...doing my homework beforehand paid off.

All those people were just checking it out. They weren't gamblers, they were just Bitcoin ...

The crew is safe, but it's such a shame for the boat - it's an absolutely gorgeous vessel - an old wooden purse seiner built in 1952. They don't make them like this anymore:

I always thought, if the day ever came when I was finished writing my software, then setting up the deposits and withdrawals would just take filling in a few forms, a couple hours of coding, few hours of legal work and we'd be ready to roll.

Whooaa was I wrong. It turns out that just being able to accept payments is the hardest part of the process. It's the part of the club you're not invited to, unless you're in bed with at least two governments and two banks, and a dozen lawyers, ...
