My first CM blog, a Blast from the Past!

Many members have shared so many interesting things, personal things about themselves on the CM forums/blog, so I thought I'd share my recent blast from my past finding.

Before sharing what I found let me say that years ago, many years ago I was in the music business. I stopped some 25 + years ago and went a different direction. I've been a small business owner for the past 25 years.

Recently I was goggling some songwriters I've known over the years to see if they were still around, what they were doing, when I came across an interesting find. Old 45's and albums from many years ago that I recorded. Who still has these? Obviously several people do, to my amaze. Who has a record player??

I was 14 years old on some of these and I'm now 50. Oh my! Honestly I thought most of these were either trashed or warped from being stored in an attic.

Isn't technology great, what you can find on the internet? I would have never dreamed that after 36 years I would find 45 records that I recorded in 1975 as a child being sold on eBay. Yep found more than one. My wife of almost 30 years has been buying them, not sure why, maybe for the grandkids, that's OK.

Wow what goes around does really come back around doesn't it!

Attached one picture, not sure if it will appear but I'll try to add it.

My son and daughter -in-law bought me a record player-cd player combo thing for Christmas last year. We pulled down all my old vinyl records I had stored in one of the bedroom closets. The kids had a good laugh at some of the records I had. Brought back a lot of good memories listening to them. Now I'm going to have to go see if I can find some of yours if you'll share some of the names of your recordings...

That's cool didn't know you could still purchase record players. Ksech, there were many records over the years starting at the age of nine. The ones I've came across on the Internet were recorded in 1975 when I had a record contract with ABC Dot records in Nashville.

Back in the day this was a pretty big deal for me because country artists like Don Williams, Barbara Mandrell, Freddy Fender and others were signed to this label. Since this was a major label with large distribution you might come across one of those records. Gee Whiz, Hey There Lonely Girl, You Can Build A Bridge and Lonely Boy were a few.

You Can Build A Bridge was the most popular, never made the Billboard country charts but was mentioned as a Sleeper. That was a good thing back then, sleeper meant it might break into the charts. But it slept and eventually never woke up.

There was a live album recorded once but I don't recall what year. I was a teenager, it was my name On The Road. I played harmonica on this one too. It was a live venue so the production isn't that good.

At the end of my music days I preformed at Opryland USA, sometimes you can find the cast albums from back in 1980-1982. It was a show called Country Music USA, man had a blast performing there. My wife recently purchased a 1980 cast album she found online, still factory sealed from 31 years ago.

Honestly unless you want your kids rolling on the floor I'd same the money. I sounded like a girl back then.

Sure has been fun coming across this stuff though, sharing it here on CM's blog. Brings back a lot of fond memories.

My kids were laughing because one of the 45's I have is Donny Osmond singing Puppy Love LOL I also have the Partridge Family. Now that I've totally embarrassed myself... I do have some older 45's I "inherited" from my much older brother and sister...Bus Stop (The Hollies), Several Beatles, some Cowsills LOL, it's a rather eclectic collection.

Yes, they bought this combo thing at Wal Mart, was very happy I can now play the vinyl. *I still have 8 track tapes too! LOL*

I'm going to have to do some digging through boxes, as I have some of my mother-in-laws old albums (she was a country/western music buff) I may have some of your stuff and not be aware of it!

That is really cool! You should save a few of the songs as MP3s so we can listen to them!

Ray's family is in the process of getting his mom's house ready for sale, while they were cleaning it up he ran across some old tapes from when he and his brother were kids with their first band. Except in his case, he was cracking up listening to it - he kept saying, "OMG we were HORRIBLE."

Cool, I'm sure it still brought back some fond memories for Ray and even better you got to hear him play music when he was a kid.

Since all my stuff is on records, don't think it would sound good converted to an MP3 cause all I could do is purchase a record player, mic the sound and save on the computer.

You never know, I might try it someday and we all can have a good chuckle!
