    This original recipe has been part of my repartoire for decades. Back in my single days, my friend Natalie (who could not cook back then) and I lived in the same apartment building. We shared the cost of hosting a brunch every Sunday, and I cooked and she cleaned up. We would invite anyone interesting we met on Friday or Saturday. She met her husband at one...I invited a new guy to the building I met in the laundry room, and he brought his roommate Joe.

    This is not an original recipe, but has been around long enough to be in the public domain. It is probably best known as Wacky Cake, but also Wartime Cake, Three Hole Cake and Pantry Cake. It was probably developed to cope with WWII rationing, although some claim in dates from the depression era.

    Chili Crusted Shrimp Salad

    1 plateful of mixed greens
    1/2 diced avocado
    1/2 blood orange (ate the other half when I was getting it ready)
    1 julienned red pepper

    8 large raw shrimp

    About 3Tbsp of mixed paprika, chili powder & cayenne

    Peel and devein shrimp. Pat dry with paper towel and dust with chili powder, paprika and cayenne to taste. Heat a dry skillet to medium high, and toss in shrimp. Let first side cook ...
