Bad Beat! Good Beat!

Posted 24th August 2008 at 05:45 PM by GaryWatson
Yesterday I played 54 SNG turbo tournaments in 3 hours. Playing at pokerstars on the $1.75 dual table games, my aim was simple, to complete a 100 game block and finish on the weekly leaderboard.

After the 54 games I saw a healthy $40 profit, not remarkable in itself. What was interesting, however was the amount of Beats I managed to cram in.

Playing so many games, ensures you will get so many more bad beats. With little time to ponder, you can only plod on.

Forums and chat boxes are filled with people crying over bad beats. Getting outdrawn seems an occupational hazzard.

For those who think bad beats only happen to them, its not true. We just forget the beats we inflict on others.

When you are playing on a single table, a bad beat might wipe away hours of perfect play. On multiple tables, if you lose one game, you still have others to fall back on, so the pain is not so harsh.

The name of the game is to get your chips in with the best hand. That does not guarantee you will win the hand but it does guarantee long term success.

If I can get to see a cheap flop on the blinds, I will take it. Is it any wonder I hit 2 pair with 2-7o against someone trying to slow play AA?

My AA was busted a couple of times but I always put a healthy raise before the flop, then a post flop raise. If I still get caught, ah well..I just continue with the other games & start a new game as replacement.

In conclusion, my thought process went out the window. My only aim was to make the right plays according to my hands. Bad beats are just part of the game, it works both ways.

Get over the misery and start again
