My first prescription sleeping pill.

Between some pain and stress in my life the last few weeks, I've been having trouble sleeping. When I do finally manage to sleep it's been difficult to stay asleep. When I'm awake I'm so tired I can't get anything accomplished, so yesterday I spoke to my doctor. He gave me some prescription sleeping pills, and yesterday I tried one for the first time.
I'm one of those people who can't sleep when there's a light on in the room - or a radio playing - a fly buzzing in the house next door, etc. I've never been able to sleep in front of the tv or while other people are having a conversation in the room - or in another room.
So the day I went to the doctor I was a wreck, I hadn't slept at all the night before. When I got home it was 1pm, and I decided to try to have a nap - no go. So I decided to have some lunch and take a pill - I sat on the couch with my bowl of microwaved leftover pasta and tuned the tv to Perry Mason (love that show!) thinking I'd just wait til I felt drowsy and then off to bed I go.
I take a couple bites of my lunch and next thing I know, I'm out cold sitting on the couch - Ray's trying to wake me up to get me to go to bed, my bowl is in my hand but tipped sideways dribbling into in my lap, and the tv's blaring away. He had to help me stand up (and stay standing) and to get up up the stairs. I was staggering around like a drunk, banging into the walls. It was absolutely unbelievable. I actually fell asleep partway upstairs standing up.
I went from thinking "I hope I can get some zzzs" to lights out in less than 30 seconds. I'm SO glad I wasn't cooking something or have a cigarette burning or anything like that. Also glad I hadn't had anything alcoholic or it would have been even worse.
I'm just amazed and how fast and how HARD that tiny little pill hit me. I've tried the over-the-counter sleeping aids from the drugstore, but they've never affected me like that!
